It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and the neighbourhood kids were playing in the park as they usually did.

Among them were Katsuki Bakugo, Shiori Himura and Izuku Midoriya.

The three of them went to the same school, and were always hanging out together and talking about how they wanted to become heroes when they grew up.

In a society where most people possessed special powers called Quirks, children often dreamed of being amongst the most powerful members of society who fought against crime.

That day, the group of kids was walking along the trees, talking about how amazing Katsuki's new quirk was. He had just developed the ability to cause explosions from his hands, using his nitroglycerin-like sweat.

"Kacchan, your Quirk is so awesome!" said one of the boys.

"I know." smirked Katsuki. "Its's even better than Shiori's"

The girl rolled her eyes.

Shiori and Bakugou had known each other practically since birth. Their moms were very good friends and often set up play-dates for the two since before they could talk.

For them, being around each other was as natural as breathing.

"Yeah, you're so cool Kacchan!" said Midoriya, excitedly.

When Shiori and Katsuki met young Izuku Midoriya, he was instantly drawn by Bakugou's confidence.

Izuku Midoriya was unfortunately quirkless, meaning he didn't develop any powers. In the beginning, he was quite shaken up by it, but he didn't let it deter him from his dreams of being a hero.

---

After a while of walking, the children came upon a 'No Trespassing' sign.

Shiori could practically hear the engines of mischief turning in Katsuki's brain.

"Let's go kill the enemy!" said the boy, pointing to the area past the sign.

"YEAH!" cheered the boys.

Izuku looked concerned.

"Kacchan, I don't think-"

Before he could continue, Shiori put her arm before Midoriya, signalling for him to stop.

"Don't bother, he's not gonna listen, Izu-chan." said the girl. "Let's go and make sure he doesn't hurt anyone. Or himself."

With that, she followed after Katsuki, and Izuku followed her.

Later that same day, the group was playing ball at the playground.

Bakugou threw a ball towards Midoriya, but he didn't manage to catch it so it just bounced off his head.

"Izuku, you really can't do anything, can you?" said Katsuki, laughing.

He picked up Midoriya's bucket and pointed to the name tag.

"You can read the characters for 'Izuku' as 'Deku', you know." he said.

"Kacchan, you can read?" asked one of the boys, enthusiastically.

"You can't?" asked Bakugou, arrogantly. "Deku means someone who can't do anything."

Young Midoriya looked down to the floor, looking pretty upset.

"That's what we'll call you now, Izuku. You're Deku." continued Katsuki.

"Kacchan, that's not funny." said Shiori, angrily.
