Wassalia was just around the corner. Sofia and Prince Hugo had just done their Nutcracker ballet with their ice-dancing class. Now the school is closed for Wassalia vacation. Best of all, Hugo's family was throwing a Wassalia party and inviting all their friends, old and new.
In Hugo's palace, he'd wrapped gifts for his older brother, Axel, their uncle Grimtrix, and their father, King Garrick—he even wrapped a gift for Sofia. Now he just needs to find the perfect gift for his mother, Queen Samira.
It was a few days before Wassalia, and Sofia came over to see Hugo.
"Good morning, Sofie," Hugo smiled, hugging Sofia tightly.
"Hi, Hugo," Sofia smiled back. "How's everything?"
"Great," Hugo beamed. "We've been working hard planning this Wassalia party. I still can't believe the Protectors of the Mystic Isles are coming."
"Believe it, Hugo—they're family," Sofia giggled.
"Well, now I still have to find the perfect gift for Mom," Hugo declared.
"Have you tried looking in the jewel room?" Sofia asked.
"No, I haven't," Hugo replied. "She's out in town right now, so she shouldn't catch me carrying a gift for her in the castle."
Hugo and Sofia went to the palace jewel room. There were so many different things in this jewel room, and Hugo didn't know what to give his mother. He saw a beautiful silver heart-shaped locket.
"Wow, this is perfect," Hugo smiled. He picked up the locket and opened it to find that it could hold four pictures.
"You can put a picture of each relative in your family in there: Grimtrix, your dad, your brother, and—of course—you," Sofia suggested.
"I like the sound of that," Hugo smiled.
Hugo and Sofia took the locket back to his and Axel's bedroom. Hugo made four drawings, one of each of the men in his family. When the drawings were finished, Hugo put them inside the locket.
"I can't wait to see Mom's face when she sees this," Hugo smiled.
Suddenly, the bedroom door was opening. Thinking it would be his mother, Hugo quickly put the locket in the drawer of his desk. But it was only Axel coming in.
"Hi, baby bro, Sofia," Axel waved.
"Oh, hi, Big Bro," Hugo giggled nervously. "I thought it was Mom coming in."
"Oh, yeah?" Axel smirked.
"Yeah, I finally got her a Wassalia gift," Hugo declared. He opened the drawer and took out the locket.
"That's beautiful," Axel gaped.
"It even holds four pictures," Hugo gushed. He opened the locket to show his brother the pictures he put in.
"Wow, Mom is going to love this, baby bro," Axel grinned.
"You really think so?" Hugo asked.
"I know it," Axel smiled.
Hugo put the locket in a box, which he wrapped up and hid in the closet. Suddenly, Samira's voice rang out from outside the bedroom door, "Boys?"
Hugo and Axel froze in shock hearing their mother's voice.
"We're in here, Mom," Hugo called.
Samira came in to see her sons looking anxious. "Are you boys okay?" she asked.
"We're fine, Mom," Axel replied.
"Good to know," Samira smiled.
