Chapter 46: You Owe Me
~Zane~

"Zane!" Zerenity shouts from her room.

"What do you want?!" I yell back.

"I forgot to tell you that Mom and I baked too many cupcakes and she said you can have it but you have to invite over your girlfriend!"

I still can't get used to that word though we've dating for months. 'Girlfriend'.

"Okay!" I shout back to her before calling Dove.

"Hello?" Dove answers.

"Hey—" I'm interrupted by Zerenity bursting into my room and grabbing my phone.

She clears her throat and says, in a terrible impression of me, "Hey baby, you free tonight? I got 5 dozen cupcakes with our names on it. We can Netflix and Chill if you'd like too, Babe." Pause for a beat. "Of course this is Zane, babe." Another pause. "No, this is not Zerenity pretending to be Zane." Dove walks into view with my mom. "W-What you mean you can see me, baby?"

"Turn around for crying out loud!" Dove says.

Zerenity screams, falling onto me. "D-D-D-Dovey~Chan!"

"Dovey~Chan?" Dove questions.

"Yeah! It's your nickname now!" I beam.

"Zerenity get off! You're heavier than you look!" I groan.

"Rude!" She rolls around on my stomach causing me to scream.

"Zerenity!" Mom exclaims sternly.

"Oof! Sorry Mommy! Sorry Zane!" She jumps off of me and hugs Mom. "Still trying to go back to being nice."

"Yeah, but Mrs. Ro'Maeve already called me over earlier." Dove explains.

"Oh! Um... oops!" Zerenity shrugs.

"Please, call me Zianna," Mom says. "Zerenity, could you—" she's interrupted by Zerenity's phone ringing.

"Oh! It's Gene! Sorry Mommy, one second!" Zerenity skips out of the room.

"Who's Gene?" Mom wonders.

Mom must not know about Zerenity and Gene dating. I knew something was up, Mom didn't even really want me to date Dove. Zerenity did a LOT of convincing. And Mom's a lot more protective over her 'only baby girl', there's no way she'd agree to that.

"Zerenity didn't tell you? He's—" I cut Dove off.

"Dove's brother." Dove glares at me but I give her a pleading look. We should let Zerenity tell her, Mom would cry if we did it. Still, Zerenity owes me.

"Oh, I didn't know you had another brother, Zerenity only told me about Dante."

"Um, yeah, Gene's in college so we don't talk a lot." Dove nods.

"College? Then how does—"

"Mommy! Is it okay if I go hang out with Travis?" Zerenity bounces back into the room.

"Are you sure you aren't meeting with Gene?"

"Huh?"

"Weren't you just talking to him on the phone?"

"I mean... yeah, but I'm literally going to go to Travis' house. We talked earlier."

"One of your brothers can go with you." Mom looks at me.

"It's just Travis and Mr. Valkrum but okay."

"I'm assuming you mean me since neither Vylad or Garroth are here." I groan.

"Yeah! Dovey~Chan can come too! Ooh! And bring the cupcakes! It can be a friend date!" She cheers. Dove and I exchange glances before agreeing.

"Have fun guys." Mom says before leaving the room.

"Zerenity, you owe me BIG time," I groan. "First, I cover up the fact that—" I lower my voice in case Mom is still close— "you and Gene are dating and now I have to go hang out with you and your friend?"

"Travis is all of our friends, don't act like you don't hang out with him."

"Because you force me too."

"Well, Mom said you're going, so there. Now let's go!"
