"Hello?" He picked up on the third ring.
I took a deep breath. "David, it's Alice. From the theatre." I felt the need to explain myself.
"Hey, Alice. What's going on? Is something wrong? Are you alright?" He asked, immediately sounding concerned.
"Physically or mentally?" I asked with a sharp laugh.
"Both." He said simply.
"In that case, no." I said.
"Do you want me to pick you up?" He asked, immediately apprehensive.
I hadn't thought about that. All things considered, why not?
"Sure."
"Where are you?" He asked.
I told him where I was.
"I'll be there."
True to his word, he was there in about 15 minutes.
"Get in." He said.
I opened the door and slid into the passenger seat, throwing my luggage into the back seat.
"Where to?" He asked. That one threw me.
"Umm, I don't know." I told him sheepishly.
He rolled his eyes.
"Fine, we'll go to my place." And with that, we sped off into the night. Thirty terrifying minutes later, we arrived at the theatre. "Huh? What are we doing here?" I asked, puzzled.
"I said we were going to my place, didn't I?" He asked, arching a brow.
"What? I-" I cut off as realization hit me. Oh. He lived here. I grabbed my bag.
"Go on in," He called over the engine. "I'm going to park this." He drove off, and I walked inside. Nothing had changed. I walked further in, up the stairs, and onto the stage. I turned to look back at the doors.
"Gaah!" I cried
David, suddenly behind me, laughed as my startled expression became a death glare.
"Come on, I'll show you the guest room." He said, still grinning. He walked down those same stairs backstage. I followed him down. Whatever I had been expecting, it wasn't this. What I stepped into from the stairs was a large, lavishly furnished living room. "Whoa." I said in a low tone.
"Quit drooling and come with me." He said. I glared and followed him to a door.
"Here you go." He said. I walked in.
"Thank y-" I cut off as I realized he had vanished.
I turned to look at the room I was staying in. I was amazed. It was just as well decorated as the living room. To think, all of this under a theatre! I took out the night dress that I had packed earlier tonight. I had so much to think about. The fight with Alex seemed a million years ago. I was positive I wouldn't sleep at all. But when I lay down on the soft bed and flicked the light off, sleep came suprisingly easily.
