Episode 9: Flying First Class

Emily had an emergency meeting with the director about her schedule with the upcoming filming, so she had to allow Nicholas to go ahead without her to the airport.

When she and Talia wrapped up all the loose ends in the contract, Emily was escorted to the airport by David just in time for her flight to Los Angeles.

Emily blew out a breath of cold air as she wrapped her jacket around her.

"Enjoy your flight, Mrs. King." David tendered with a bow.

She paused.

"Thank you, David."

It still felt weird to hear someone call her that.

Mrs. King.

There was little time left before the last call for the flight and Emily had to hurry over to her designated gate.

Her shoulders slumped with relief when she had made it in time. After checking her ticket Nicholas bought online, Emily was directed to her seat.

However, her eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise when she was shown to the First Class section of the aeroplane.

There was no doubt about it. This man surely enjoyed his money's worth.

Emily had thought the First Class Cabin would be full, however, as she walked in, she realized, apart from Nicholas, there were no other passengers.

His long legs were casually crossed whilst sitting. He wore a slim-fitting tailored suit which emphasized his broad shoulders and waist. The white shirt underneath was buttoned all the way up to the collar. He was bathed in sunlight from the window seat, but his body appeared to be shrouded in an ancient frost. The cool and calm demeanor he exuded was like that of an olden day emperor.

He reeked of power and all the physical senses she had could account for that.

As if the man sensed her observing him, he directed a gaze as deep as the ocean at her. His chilling stare seemed to melt however at the red-nosed Emily that stood before him.

Nicholas removed his coat as he lowered his guard and signalled for her to take a seat.

Emily put her luggage away and took a seat across from Nicholas, him soaking in her amazed expression.

"Why is it so empty?" She asked, referring to the first class cabin.

Nicholas leered at Emily for a minute before he put his coat across her lap and hid her exposed thighs. "I rented it out."

If she had been a cartoon character, her jaw would have touched the floor.

"A-All of it?"

"All of it."

"Why?"

Nicholas slouched his seat looking far more comfortable than he was five minutes ago.

"Weren't you the one that didn't want our relationship to be publicized?"

"I don't, b-but..."

"Despite the fact that first class is made to be more private, people still do talk about what takes place inside here as soon as the plane lands. It's better to take precautions with both you and me being renowned individuals."

Emily couldn't believe his reasoning.

"That doesn't mean you should rent out an entire first class cabin. It's such a waste of money!"

"It's not a waste of money, Emily. If it's to ensure that you and I have a comfortable flight, I will take these measures. Plus, it's not like I can't afford it."

Emily couldn't argue with him there.

"Okay." She gave up.

His lips twitched at her sudden acceptance of defeat. She was so vivacious about things, even something as insignificant as money, that it made him feel more drawn to her. Wishing to have more conversations with her to see her lively reactions and animated speech.

"How did the script reading for your series go? It slipped my mind to ask you about it when you got home yesterday."

Emily's eyes lit up.

"It was fun. To be honest it's still strange to be back after so long...but it's not a bad feeling."

"That's good."

Emily was touched that he seemed to be so interested in what she liked to do.

Every time she spoke about acting he was engaged, never taking his eyes off her for a second.

"So...this emergency trip. Is it anything serious?" Emily asked, returning the favour.

"Nothing that I can't handle."

"Oh, that's good then. I was worried you were going to be put in a difficult position."

"Nothing of that sorts."

Nicholas liked that she seemed genuinely concerned about his business. He reveled in the thought that she was interested in these things that women before had thought of as nothing than a factor of boredom.

"Just issues with an ignoramus that thinks he can get his way around our contract. Nothing a face-to-face meeting can't fix. In addition to that, I also have some business to attend to in the city anyway so it makes for a perfect timing."

Emily leant against the armrest.

She listened keenly to the sound of Nicholas' voice. It was so smooth and calming.

"So...you're not mad about what happened?"

His eyes locked in on her own with a benignant expression.

"How can I still be when you're coming along with me?"

She ducked her head with some diffidence.

"You sure were bred eloquently, Nicholas."

Nicholas' shoulders shook with laughter.

"My, my, Emily. Is there not one second that you're not thoroughly abashed?"

The woman looked up at him in annoyance.

Nevertheless, he continued with his oral analysis of her special traits.

"Your cheeks light up at the simplest words I say. Look, take now for example, you're peeved yet your cheeks are adorned with redness." He continued, looking thoroughly satisfied with her shaken up expression.

"Not one thing you have ever said falls under the category of 'simple', Nicholas. Unfortunately, I was born this way. Whether I am embarrassed, upset or filled with elation, I blush an awful shade. So, take it or leave it." As she spoke there was nothing but truth to her words as she could feel the heat growing in her cheeks. By now they must be beyond an attractive rosiness.

She used to hate her face's habit of blushing when she was younger, sometimes she still did to this day.

They must be marking her out as socially incompetent, Emily had concluded with irritation. She felt as if all her insecurities were written large across her face and there was nowhere to hide.
