I stared at the boy in front of me. I looked over at Casey and then back at the boy.
“Umm…thanks?” I said and shook his hand lightly.
He grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight.
“ Lesson number one: You’ll never last if your weak. Grow a backbone.” He said while tightening his grip on my hand. He finally let go and I glared at him. He shook his head at me and looked over at Casey.
“Why is the kid here?” Cayden asked and I looked at him in shock. Did I do something to upset him? We just met so why does he sound so angry at me? He was smiling at me not even a few seconds ago?
Casey sighed and walked over to the seat next to me and sat down.
“Your training him.” She said bluntly.
“No.” He said plainly. I could see the anger bubbling under the surface but chose to keep my mouth shut. I knew what kind of position I was in right now.
“You don’t have a choice Cayden.” She said tiredly. He huffed and looked at me. I figited uner his gaze and looked away so we wouldn’t make eye contact.
“Look me in the eye.” Cayden said. I turned to him and looked at him.
His eyes were a dark grey. They were beautiful, but they were hollow. Something happened to him. Something bad. But I wouldn’t pry; everyone has something they don’t want to talk about. I understand that better than anyone.
“What’s your name?” He asked startling me out of my thoughts.
“Oh! Umm…it’s Lance.” I said trying to keep eye contact but failing.
“You know what we do here right?”
“Yes…I do.”
“Why are you here then?”
“What do you mean?”
“You seriously want to be caught up in this mess?”
“No, but under certain circumstances this is where I thought my skills would be best used.” Casey placed her hand on my shoulder and smiled sadly at me.
“You need to understand something Cayden. This won’t be like the last time I tried to get you to train someone. This is different.” Casey said and Cayden glared at her.
