The human heart

They speak of broken hearts,
but how can a heart be broken?
Does it no longer beat the sound
of the living?
Does it tear up from the inside,
painting everything you once had
known in crimson red?
No, the heart does not break.
It might feel an ache that,
with time, will pass like the wind
on a warm summer evening, and no
longer leave you breathless as you
think about what you once thought
had the ability to break something
as strong and great

as the human
heart.
