2 (Forever Wasn't Long Enough)

the sun set.
the stars and the moon
came out of hiding.

the air was cool and
ruffled our hair as
we sat on the hill.

I looked over at her.

her hair fell perfectly
in loose ringlets
over her shoulders and down her back.

the twinkling stars reflected
in her eyes as if
they had been there all along
and the soft grin
on her face was worth
anything and everything I had.

we stayed there for
what felt like forever.

the stars danced across the sky
and around the moon.
she watched them.
I watched her.

the moon started to disappear.
the sun made it way
back into the sky and
she looked at me.

she smiled,
tucked her hair behind her ear and . . .

my eyes opened.

I wasn't there.
she wasn't with me.
it was all just a memory
and it's been
a very long time
since I watched
the stars dance across the sky
until their time was up
with her.

I loathe myself . . .

for remembering
when we snuck out just before sunset.
we joked about ridiculous things and
fought over stupid stuff.

for wondering if you remembered
whenever you looked at the stars.
I know you don't
and for letting fate
tear us apart because . . .

forever wasn't long enough.

Dedicated to someone I haven't seen in awhile and it's killing me. You moved away in summer. . . . . . It's winter now and I really miss you. ILY XO
