"I feel funny Laurie." Five-year-old Benjamin said. Laurie, his older sister by four years, looked at him queerly.

"Is it your tummy?" She asked.

Benjamin instinctively touched his stomach. "Maybe."

Laurie brought him up to her lap and cuddled him. They were in their rowdy school bus, filled with young children and teenagers, all heading home after a long day of school. The sky was dark, and it was drizzling.

Mrs Annabelle Walker, their mother, would be waiting at the bus stop to pick them both up. Mr Benjamin walker had died in a car accident on his way to the hospital when Benjamin was born. Their mother deemed it fit to give the little boy his father's name.

"Look, Ben..." Laurie said to Benjamin, pointing at the view outside the window.

"We're crossing the bridge now." Benjamin held on to his sister for dear life. He hated water, and underneath the bridge, lay just that.

But Laurie loved everything about the water, especially mermaids. Her favorite color was blue, and all of her toys consisted of dolphins, sea lions, and her mermaid dolls, which she always dressed up in shimmering little dresses because; according to her, mermaids always shimmer and shine in the ocean.

"One day, I'll be an oceanographer." She'd say to her mother.

She'd instantly fallen in love with the job when she'd asked her teacher if there was any job in the world that required going into the ocean. She'd always smile whenever she thought about her dream job.

"It'll be easy. Like going into the ocean and taking pictures with all the dolphins and mermaids. And I'll get to have mermaid friends." she'd say, a big smile dressed childishly on her lips, even when she barely knew how to swim.

But her mother promised to let her start her swimming lessons when she turned 12. Laurie was just one little ocean lover with an ocean-themed backpack, and Disney princess Moana was her hero.

She held on tighter to her brother, smiling as she thought about how cool it would be to finally grow up and be able to make mermaid friends, and probably be able to prove to her friends that they exist.

The bus had stopped moving a few minutes ago due to heavy traffic. Every kid on the bus was either playing with, talking to, or yelling at another kid.

Then the bridge shook violently.
