Hookfang burst into flames with an angry cry, trying to look bigger than the pitch black dragon that dared fight the fiery Monstrous Nightmare. The Night Fury's dangerous green eyes illustrated the pure killer inside him, the stern glare scaring Hiccup and having him regret ever trying to kill it. The Night Fury swung first, having Hookfang leap back while Hiccup tried to run. But as he crawled he found himself surrounded by fire, Hookfang's tail torching the bush and burning Hiccup within it. Hiccup moved fast through the flames, stumbling into the battlefield between the two dragons. He stuck himself to a tree, fear eating at him as he tried to make his way out of the fight. He hoped to run back to the village where it'll be safe, but he worried about Hookfang. This other dragon was smaller and had the advantage of speed compared to Hookfang, and the Monstrous Nightmares only strength against him was his sharp talons and teeth.
Hookfang reacted with a breath of hot steaming fire, blasting at the Night Fury. The black dragon used its wings to cover himself while moving along where Hiccup stood, having the boy duck down and cuddle himself as the very Night Fury stood before him. The dragon dropped his wings when Hookfang ran out of firepower, had used it all up to cover his body. The Night Fury pulled back air as the familiar shriek filled Hiccup's ears. The same sound it would make before it took a shot through a building or hut, its warning signal for what's to come. Hiccup realised Hookfang wouldn't have a chance of survival from the blast. So with all the boy's might, the small Viking ran to the head of the black beast as the dragon went for the shot. Hiccup used his body to shove the snout having the blast's aim off of Hookfang, just as it missed the huge red dragon's wing. The sound of the blast pierced Hiccup's ear, almost deafening him.
The Night Fury panted heavily above the Viking boy as Hookfang paced around, worried for the disoriented boy who laid before the deadly black dragon. Hookfang let out a pleading cry to spare the young Viking, the Night Fury only just realising why the Monstrous Nightmare was acting so protective. The young youth stirred where he laid, shaking his head so sound could find its way back in. He searched his surroundings as he took in one panicked Hookfang, tall towering trees and one large black dragon standing over him with a fierce stare.
Hiccup scrambled away and toward the trusting Monstrous Nightmare while looking back at the dangerous Night Fury, its slick figure moving closer and sniffing at the Viking. It's green eyes still gave him a stern glare, but curiosity swam through him. The idea that a dragon and human had found a way to get along, this little boy had entrusted himself to a Monstrous Nightmare. The Night Fury gave out a small wabble sound, speaking to Hookfang with a puzzled expression. Hookfang responded with his own growl, the Night Fury seeming to calm himself with the given knowledge.
Hiccup took the chance, bonding with a Night Fury would be his ultimate achievement compared to his other tries. But Hiccup knew this time he had to be more careful, Hookfang was easy due to their share in food. While the Night Fury and he hadn't started on good terms, and he hoped the dragon didn't recognise him as the Viking who had tried to shoot him down all those years ago. Hiccup's first move was to stand up, his legs shaking while keeping eye contact with the same shade of green the Night Fury stared from. Then he found his hand resting on Hookfang's snout, demonstrating how he was gentle toward the dragon and could be toward him as well.
The Night Fury's expression didn't shift as he watched the boy calmly pet the red fiery dragon. His mind opening up to the new possibility that mankind and dragons could live as one, that this boy was the key to save both species. But the Night Fury still felt unsettled, aware that the boy was still a Viking. The same kind of Viking that has killed thousands of his kind.
"Its okay, I won't hurt you," explained Hiccup, holding out his other hand, offering his trust to the dragon that could kill him easily.
The Night Fury moved forward and sniffed at the boy's palm, taking an interest to the gesture. His hand was slightly shaking, fear still crept on him as the two came close to touch. Their eyes met and they both saw fear, pain and a need to find themselves within each other's irises. Seeing their own reflection in both their eyes. The Night Fury stepped closer and was near touch.
"KILL THEM!" ordered Snotlout as the stubby boy leapt from the trees and headed for the Monstrous Nightmare.
The Night Fury took to the skies instantly, not wanting to be seen by these vicious humans, feeling stupid for thinking he could trust them. But his flight was cut short as bolas wrapped around his wings and legs, having him crash through the trees and rocks. Pain sparked all over his black shimmering body, but it hurt most at his tail. One of his fins threatening to rip off.
Hiccup watched in horror as Snotlout and all his friends crowded the beast, soon his own father jumping out to wrestle with Hookfang. Hiccup had no chance to save his friend, but he noticed Astrid and Gobber chucking Bola's at the Night Fury. His black scaled friend plummeting through trees while letting out a high shriek of pain. Hiccup was fast on his feet, running for the black scaly dragon and in hope that Hookfang could defend himself. Hookfang was fireless due to wasting it on the Night Fury, but he still had his claws, teeth and wings.
Snotlout swung his axe at the beast, hoping to cut its throat. But Hookfang swung his head around and bashed the boys away with his long antler like horns. Stoick used that chance to leap onto the head, holding onto the horns and tieing its mouth shut. The rest had grabbed at the wings and legs, pinning it down before it could snap at anyone else.
"Let me kill it Chief, it'll give me high points," stated Snotlout, his axe already raised and ready to come down on the dragon.
"No," he answered, staring down at the yellow acid eyes. "This beast has caused enough havoc in these areas." Everyone paused as they struggled to follow on. "We'll take it back to the arena and give it a worthy kill. Show the devil what it means to be a Viking." The others seemed to like the sound of that, hoping they would be the one to kill it.
Hiccup ran up the damaged ground, seeing how the Night Fury's body had dug through dirt and made a trail for Hiccup to find the injured creature being tied down. He made his move fast, knowing Astrid and Gobber would come out and kill it straight away. Hiccup pulled out his small dagger from his belt, skidding across the dirt on his knees as he kneeled beside the scarred dragon. He grabbed the first rope that came to reach and started to cut through, soon the dragon's legs became movable and its wings could stretch. As soon as all the ropes were cut the Night Fury jumped and pinned Hiccup onto a boulder, staring down at the boy with a powerful gaze.
Hiccup was frightened, he knew when the others ran in the Night Fury lost all trust in the boy. But it seemed Hiccup's bravery to save the lost black dragon had granted him the will to live. Watching as the majestic beast stood back, still watching Hiccup with full alert. Hiccup followed his gaze as they both fell lost in on another's eyes, but a warrior cry was heard from the trees, a shieldmaiden cry. The Night Fury took to the skies or tried to. Stumbling off into the distance as Astrid appeared with a disappointed grunt.
"Dammit," she groaned as she flung her axe around in frustration.
"Hiccup?" Gobber grabbed the boy from under the arm, noticing how the youth was shaking. "What are yer doing out here? It's too dangerous for yer," his concern written across his face. "Let's get yer back to yer father."
Gobber dragged Hiccup back, keeping his grip around the boy just incase if he fainted. Hiccup was obviously affected by the events and would probably be traumatised for a while, and Gobber needed to help him through it. When the three met up with the rest, they were shocked to see the Monstrous Nightmare still alive and tied down. The defeated beast letting out a cry for help.
"So what's the plan, er Stoick?" questioned Gobber, handing the shaken Hiccup over to Astrid to hold onto.
"This dragon has caused to much trouble," stated Stoick as he turned to see his dazed son, held within his promises arms. "What is he doing here?" he gestured to Hiccup.
