John's POV

It was dark outside.
Alex still slept against me.

The doctor comes in.
A few words escape his mouth.
"He's okay."

I feel tears flowing freely down my already reddened face. I sit up and nod.

"Room 1801."

I say a quick, "Thank you." as he turns the corner, the opposite hallway of the rooms.

I hold Alex's shoulder softly. I give him a little shake.

"Lex, wake up..." I hum, poking his shoulder.

His eyes are droopy and there's sadness unwillingly hanging on.

He sits up and stifles a yawn. A solitary tear falls from his face when he notices my stream.

"He didn't make it, did he?" He asks softly, purity in his voice. Delicateness. Fragility.

I sniffle a bit before smiling. "He made it, Lex."

He sits up straighter. "Holy shit."
Then his shoulders fall. "A few days."

I nod. "Room 1801. Let's go."

I stand up and grab his wrist softly. He stands up alongside me.
My arm slips around his waist, as it's been for the past few hours.

We reach the door.
Tension.
We both exhale before opening the door.
A click is heard as the lock undoes itself.
We push the door open.

Philip is laying down. Not on his phone that was an arm's reach away.

He was staring at the ceiling.
Emptiness.

"Pip?" Alex asks softly, slipping out of my grasp. He pulls up a chair next to Philip's bed.

Philip groans.

I follow Alex's lead, taking a seat. "Philip... how do you feel?"

"Shit." Is his only word.

"Physically or mentally?" Alex pushes, trying to get anything from his son.

"Yes."

I nod. "Do you want anyone brought here? Georges, Theo?"

He shakes his head.

Alex speaks up gently, "Do you want to be alone?"

He shakes his head. A few tears slip.

"Should I leave you two alone?" I offer, standing up.

Philip shakes his head again.

I sit back down.

It hits me.
He just wants us.

He was us to be there with him.
Me.
He wants the fault of this entire situation to be here.
He could've- still could- died because of me.
And he wants me in here with him.

"Do you want to watch Game of Thrones?" Alex proposes, handing Pip his phone.

Pip politely accepts.

We sit in silence for hours, watching the show.

A part of me wants to believe the Philip will make it.

The other part of me?

One word comes to mind.
