Excuse any mistakesDoctor's POV
"I got to go to work today so, there's plenty of food in the fridge and the pantry..." Jay Verra looked around the apartment then back at me. "Don't burn the building down, 'kay Smith?" she smiled then closed the door to the apartment; leaving me alone for the day.
I sat at the bar and folded my hands on the maroon marble counter-top. How am I going to get out of here? I thought. I don't even have a key... I took out my sonic screwdriver. "Oh." I laughed at myself, something I was used to doing. Most of my companions had moved on...or are in another parallel universe...oh how I missed her dearly. Once I find my TARDIS, maybe I could show Jay the stars...too.
I jumped when four hard knocks rapped on the door. I shoved my screwdriver in my jacket pocket and jumped up to answer the door. I looked into the little peeky-hole. There was a large face staring right back. I opened the door, but the chain caught and it opened only slightly. "'Ello!"
"Hey, is Jade Verra home?" said a man with his head down looking at his shoes.
"Um, no, she just left, about fifteen minutes ago...would you like to come in?" I offered politely.
"Yea, sure." he said shaking his head as he lifted his head to look at me.
I closed the door, unlocked the chain, then let him in.
"I'm Marcus Walts." I shook his hand after I closed the door, and my gut judded into an unmoving knot and something told me to be cautious. The man wore a leather jacket and skinny jeans. His hair was jet black, shaved on the sides and was slicked back. He was about as tall as me and he looked me up and down before sitting at the bar. I positioned myself behind the bar and glanced around the house in the awkward silence.
"So...are you a friend of Jay's?" I said my voice wavered on the word 'friend'.
"Yea...something like that..." he half-whispered vaguely. Tention flooded the room so quickly, that I thought I would drown in it.
"Are you hittin' my woman?" The question caught me off gaurd.
"What?"
"Are you layin' with my lady?" he asked more forcefully.
"Oh no! No, no, no! I'm just her friend!" I denied truthfully.
"That's what they all say, Mr. Smith. That's what they all say!" he pounded his fist on the counter top.
"Wait, how do you know my name?" I asked.
He chuckled. "I have eyes...eyes everywhere, Mr. Smith." Marcus got up and paced himself over to where I was standing. "And Mr. Smith...my eyes are on you..." he stopped in front of me and looked me in my eyes. My hearts were racing.
"Jay, and I, way back when...we used to be a couple..." he paced around me and I spun to keep our gazes locked, "We used to keep the neighbors up...if you know what I mean..." he smirked as one eyebrow jerked up sharply.
"Now, I know some pretty embarrassing stuff about poor, Jade. And if she doesn't stop supplying me with money, then lets just say we wouldn't want those embarrassing things getting out, now would we Mr. Smith?"
I gritted my teeth. "Blackmail." I hissed.
"Exactly!" he drew-out. Marcus walked up to me with a more serious face. We gazed eye to eye. "And don't try to get in my way." Suddenly, Marcus grabbed my suit and slammed me against the stainless-steel refrigerator. He leaned into my ear and breathed lightly into it. "I will kill you. And the last thing you'll ever see..." I could feel him grinning evilly. "Lets just say...you'd wish you were me waking the neighbors up..." he whispered.
"Don't you touch her." I hissed.
"Ah' well...Too bad for you because that will be the last thing you'll see me doing...humph." He let me go and backed out of the kitchen. "I'm watching you, Mr. Smith." He brushed back loose strands of hair from his face. "And I can, and will kill you." He opened the door and slammed it shut.
I stood there, as a tear tumbled down my red cheeks.
I will kill you...Don't try to get in my way...the last thing you'll see me doing...I'm watching you Mr. Smith...Mr. Smith...Mr...Smith...Smith...
His voice rang in my head, like a siren. I sunk down the fridge and gritted my teeth as I put my head in my hands and wept like the angels do. Blackmail...? How could this man, do something so cruel to such an inncoent young woman? I'm in this now and I can't get out. I have to stay and protect Jay...
For my sake...
For her sake...
For us...
