I walked over to the table to find it empty. Only the coffee I was once drinking sat in front where I was sitting. I sat his drink on the table and grabbed my phone.

Shan ❤️: Brody?

Ten minutes later, nothing. Not a darn thing. I was irritated, he act like I won't double text him. I give no fucks.

Shan ❤️: Brody?

Shan ❤️: Are you okay?

Shan ❤️: Can you please answer me, even if it's one letter. I need to know if you're alive.

Shan ❤️: Dang long live Brody. He was a good boss even tho he left me here. That's my eulogy, part if it. Fr Brody, I really hope you didn't just dip, like we drove here together.

Shan ❤️: are you still mad about the crab legs and Chardonnay? Fine I'll pay you back.

Shan ❤️: listen here bitch

Shan ❤️: oh my gosh ignore that, I typed it in a momentary lapse of sanity and then went to delete and my finger slipped and hit send. Please don't fire me, I know this is probable cause for termination but please don't fire me.

Shan ❤️: look, I'll do anything. Literally anything 😉

Mr. Connelly: Anything huh?

Shan ❤️: ok now you wanna text back

Mr. Connelly: I just needed some air

Shan ❤️: You coulda just said that.

Mr. Connelly: Well now you know

Shan ❤️: Do you want to be alone?

Mr. Connelly: I'm on the balcony

Shan ❤️: Where is?

Mr. Connelly: At the table, turn right and go straight to the door

Shan ❤️: I'll be there!

Mr. Connelly: Ok

I followed the instructions he gave me and found him leaning over the rail smoking a cigarette. He looked lost in thought, like something was weighing heavy on his mind.

I came up to his side and stood beside him. I figured if he wanted to talk, he would. I couldn't guarantee that I would talk him down off the ledge, but I would be there to catch him and let him know I was here no matter what, like he had once said to me.

I hugged him at his side spontaneously, he didn't react at first because he didn't expect it but it didn't take long for him to return the hug back reaching over and pulling me so I was standing in front of him. I was short, so his chin rested on the top of my head. I heard him sigh and I hugged him closer.

He broke the silence we had between us. "Hey Shan, do you want to have dinner tonight?" We broke apart. I crossed my arms while Brody when back to smoking.

"What?" It came as a shock to me. I didn't know what to say.

"You want to go out to a restaurant, somewhere nice." He scratched the back of his neck nervously.

I wasn't that special to be going out somewhere fancy. "Brody, I don't need all that. I'm a simple girl, I'm fine with a pizza and a good nap."

"I know, but don't you think it's about time we had a talk?" He asked while putting out his cigarette.

"Wow, it's that time already." I knew one day we would have to have that talk to explain what yesterday meant. Rather it was a thing of the past and a one time thing or something more.
