The shrill cry echoed through the chasm. She spun around, but he was no longer behind her. She already knew that though. It wasn't his voice that she had heard, but she recognised it. From where she had no idea. She kept walking, knowing he was a lost cause, even so, a silent tear streaked down her cheek.

Quickly moving forward, she held her hands out to the darkness, trying not to trip as she wandered aimlessly through pitch black that they had been lost in. For how long she didn't know. She wandered further, the pinprick of light that she had been following growing ever so slightly with every step she took.

She had to get out of there. She had to get help. She was his only hope, the only way he could live was if she left. She could get help, come back with torches, it was scared of the light.

A pebble ricocheting off the wall made her stop, she looked back. She sensed the eyes on her but had no idea where they were coming from. She heard the steps coming towards her. A touch to her leg sent her sprinting away only to catch the wall the never saw coming.

...

Groaning she sat up, or attempted to. She knew what this meant. It had gotten her too. Not only did he have to die, but she did as well. She started to sob quietly and tears rolled down her cheeks as she remembered the short time that they had together. She sensed it coming closer, closer. Until she felt it on her legs, slowly moving upwards.
