it was the first day of freshman year. josh said goodbye to his mom as he shut the car door and walked to his first class to meet ben.
"how was your summer?" josh asked ben enthusiastically. after all, they hadn't seen each other since the last day of 8th grade.
"dude guess what!" ben said excitedly.
"what happened?" josh asked.
"I met this girl at luis' luau party and we started dating last month!" ben practically yelled.
"oh." josh said, then he realized how disappointed he sounded and corrected himself, "that's great! good for you."
"yea her name is lauren she's so great..." ben kept going, but josh was in his own mind now. why did he feel so disappointed at the thought of ben having a girlfriend?
its just because you want a girlfriend too. he thought to himself. the boys walked into class together as the bell rang, and the thought was pushed out of josh's mind when ben started talking to him about fortnite.
the rest of the day was fine, josh met lauren and he thought she was okay, ben could do better though.
josh walked home after school, as he walked, he passed by two men holding hands and walking the opposite way. for some reason, seeing that made him feel kind of sad, he felt like he was missing that kind of thing from his life.
josh chill, you just want a girlfriend. he told himself firmly as he got to his house.
