Empires rise....empires fall. Be it over expansion as Rome or a nuclear attack as America....
My truck races.
Flying down the street. Narrowly missing people running and screaming. This is what I had prepared for. Holding the pup close to my chest as I drove I turn off on to the back roads. That's when the bombs make impact. The thunderous eruption of our civilization falling to ashes beneath our feet.I pull up to the entrance, hop out leaving the pup in the truck. Opening the bunker doors. I run back to the truck and quickly pull it in. The wind starts to kick up as I'm pulling the doors shut.
A heavy thud as the final lock is secured.
A heavy thud as everything we knew is secured as a memory.I grab the dog and the bag as I enter the living section of the bunker.
"Welcome to our home buddy, sorry I wasn't expecting company. Hopefully you like human food." I said reassuring the small creature.
I put him on the floor and hang the bag on the coat rack. Sitting on the couch I pull the gun out of my pants and lay it on the table. Kicking my boots off I set them up on the coffee table. Looking at the pup I say softly.
"Don't you die in here"
