Flashback
He heard the drunken slurs from his mothers boyfriend downstairs. Chris had been seeing Calum's mum for 6 weeks now. He had been good to them and they had never seen him this way before. Calum was scared as he heard the muffled arguments coming from downstairs, being the only noise filling his small bedroom.
He could make out some of what his mother and Chris were saying. It was something like "before you I was doing bloody great at work. Now they want to fire me!"
"Chris, please calm do-"
Bang!
Calum ran down stairs at this sound. He heard his mother sobbing, he ran into the living room where he saw Chris hunching over his mum's helpless figure. Chris had thrown her into the mirror, causing it to break into a million pieces. Calum's dad had given that mirror to his mum for her birthday 4 years ago. It was the only thing he have them and now it was destroyed.
His mothers lip and knees were bleeding and her palms were scrapped. Her face was scared and when she saw Calum her face fell down even further. She already knew her relationship with her son wasn't as strong as it used to be and him seeing her being tormented and abused by her boyfriend must have made his opinion on her lessen.
"Calum go upstairs." She pleads. He just stood there, unsure of what to do. He was trembling and he swallowed before demanding, "get out of our house!" To Chris.
Chris laughed. It wasn't a nice laugh. It was a laugh full of sinister thoughts and you knew he enjoyed thinking them. His laughter made the hairs on the back of Calum's neck stand up.
"You want me to leave?" He laughed again, Chris started to approach Calum. He was much taller than the 12 year old boy who was trying to stand up to him, so of course Calum was frightened as he felt Chris' body tower over his own.
