"What if she chased down a cab?" Shawn asked, speaking to Brian on the phone now as he arrived at his hotel, tossing the card onto the table without a second glance. "Brian, we have to go back tomorrow! What if she's there? "

Brian groaned, feeling sympathy for his friend, who had a sudden interest in the mystery girl from the café. He thought of some gentle yet simple words, but he also had to be a realist if Shawn wasn't. "Okay, and what if she isn't? That'd be a waste of money, not only that, but a waste of time. "

Shawn let out a sigh, knowing his friend was right. He had to see her, he had to talk to her, even if it was only for a few minutes. He didn't know why she was stuck in his mind or why he had the sudden urge to find her; he didn't even know her. His mind played different scenarios, making him more anxious.

He ended the call with Brian a few minutes later, changing into some sweats. He took off his socks, tossing them near his shoes, not bothering to put on a shirt. He pulled out a yogurt he had bought earlier in the morning, relieved that the hotel mini fridge actually worked, despite Yelp reviews stating otherwise.

He was binge watching a few episodes of Grey's Anatomy when his phone rang, Lainey wanting to FaceTime. He hesitated for a bit, letting his phone ring before answering.

"Hey!" She smiled, her voice loud over the call.

He cleared his throat. "Hey, what's up?"

Shawn listened to her as she talked about the small journey she went on with a few friends. His mind wandered as she ranted about who knows what, but he didn't dare to ask, knowing this girl could talk for hours. He had almost forgotten she was on the line until he heard her apologize.

"About the kiss," she sighed, grimacing a bit, her sleek hair falling to her face. "I kind of acted on an impulse. I'm sorry."

Shawn nodded. "Yeah, Brian wondered about that."

"Of course he would," she muttered, Shawn looking at her. "But I am sorry. I don't know what really came over me."

"Don't worry about it," Shawn yawned, hoping that would hint at ending the call soon. "Listen, I walked a lot with Brian today, and I'm honestly very exhausted."

She nodded, seeing the exhaustion in his expression. "I'll talk to you later then. Sleep well!"

She blew a kiss before ending the call, Shawn groaning as he tossed his phone onto the cream-colored blankets. Lainey was a sweet girl, but he just didn't see anything happening between them, especially because she didn't get along with Brian or his friends at all due to their different personalities and energies.

He watched a few more episodes before getting up to brush his teeth, throwing the empty yogurt cup in the trash. He connected his phone to his charger before getting back into the warm sheets and finally falling asleep.

It was now morning, and as much as he wanted to sleep in, he got up in hopes of running into the girl. He showered quickly when he received a text from Brian saying he was on his way to the hotel. He changed into a black T-shirt and he pulled on some socks before dressing in denim jeans. He grabbed his shoes and opened the door when he heard a knock.

"Someone's excited," Brian smirked.

"I'm hopeful," Shawn replied, reaching for his phone, wallet, and white hoodie. "Let's go."

Shawn had ordered an Uber, not only to avoid actual public transportation but to get there faster. He made small talk with Brian and the driver, feeling relieved that they were almost there. He was starting to feel really nervous and a bit stressed out, Brian noticed.

"Dude," he chuckled lightly. "Take a deep breath. You're looking kind of pale."

"M'nervous," he sighed, letting out a breath. "What if she is there?"
