Notes: Just trying something new. I actually wrote this snippet quite a while ago but never published it until now. Let me know what ya think? If you guys like it let me know and I'll post more of it. (Yes I'm still working on my other stories I've just been so caught up in this pandemic and school work, but a new chapter for you all is coming soon 🤓)

Flashback

"Today we're gonna be going over a few more review questions for tomorrows midterm. The test should be pretty easy as long as you've been following along. So let's get started. Number one says, In a 30-60-90 triangle, the length of the hypotenuse is 6. What is the length of the shortest side? To calculate this answer you will have to......

How much longer am I gonna have to tune her out? Gosh, this day couldn't be any more boring. Ugh, just kill me now. I 'm literally gonna doze off into a coma if she keeps talking. Actually, that's not such a bad idea. A few blinks of sleep won't hurt? Besides, It's not like anything important is going on anyway. Technically I'll still be listening to the lesson.

30 minutes later Zac's best friend Madison notices him drooling down the side of his cheek. "Such an idiot", she says while bending over to open her backpack. She pulls out her last sheet of paper from her book bag then tears it into small pieces and begins flicking the crumbled pieces at Zac until he wakes up. This had become the usual routine for Madison due to Zac's normal lack of focus in class. Sure it took quite a bit of work to wake him up but this was nothing compared to her sister Kyle.

Kyle had already failed this class twice due to slacking off and yet here she was once again sitting in the back of class asleep. 5 minutes and 50 spitballs later, Zac wakes up. "Way to look alive genius", Madison says sarcastically. Zachary decides to ignore Madison and finally focuses his attention on the teacher.

"That concludes our review. Class dismissed. Zachary will you please stay after class" Ms.Heckleback says.

What a relief. I couldn't stand to listen to her cackling old voice for much longer. You know you'd think at her age she'd at least be on life support with one foot in the grave already. But nooooo not Ms.Heckleback.
She has the spirit of a fighter and the soul of a fire that just won't go out.

"How unfortunate," Zac says.

"Excuse me?" Ms.Heckleback says.

"Oh uhh...I was just saying how unfortunate it is that it's raining."

"Yes, that is quite unfortunate I suppose." She says with confusion written on her face. "However, the reason I've asked to speak with you is that you are currently failing this class. Usually, I'd give any usual student an F and see them again next year but because I know your current situation at home I'll cut you some slack this time. But If you continue to not pay attention or do your work your guaranteed to be in this class again next year. Do you understand?"

Zac gives a nimble head nod as he exits the door. "How am I supposed to focus when my dad is breathing down my back about bills and work all the time? I'm barely even home most of the time." On the way to his locker, he sees Madison and her older backstabbing sister Kylen practicing for her upcoming volleyball varsity tournament.

See Kylen is a whole other story but the moral is, their rivalry had started long before high school. In eighth grade, they were all close friends until Kylen became a freshman in high school. She became popular and captain of the girl's varsity volleyball team by the time she was a sophomore. When Zac and Madison finally became freshmen Kylen wouldn't so much as look at them anymore. Anytime they'd cross paths in public Kylen would be quick to embarrass the both of them just because. If it wasn't for Olivia springing her ankle freshmen year Kylen wouldn't even be on the team. Now all she does is train nonstop. The girl is so strong that at this point she could be mistaken for a man. Of course, that may have have been an exaggeration. But she could still pull it off if given 50 percent more muscles and figure. Not to mention this ingrown chin hair of hers.

Kylen notices Zachary standing in the gym doorway from the corner of her eye and spikes a ball at him. He barely notices the ball flying full speed at him and has just enough time to dodge it by less than an inch.

"Like what you see?" Kylen says trying to get under Zac's skin. "Pfft in your dreams muscle man," Zac says with a grossed out frown on his face."Ughh doesn't be a hater" She says full of self-pride of her body. "As if, I actually dropped by to tell you about the test tomorrow. Your welcome dork." Zac says.

Kyle begins to laugh at his ignorance. Zachary stares at her annoyed. "What's so funny?" he says.

"You idiot. Ms.Heckleback told us about the test last week. Literally, the entire lecture was about tomorrows upcoming quiz. Maybe next time you should stay awake Zac." Kylen says humorously.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" Zachary says angrily.

"Why didn't you wake yourself up??" Kylen says.

"You can't answer a question with another question."

"I just did genius." She says.

"i jUsT DiD gEnIuS" Zachary says.

"Mocking me isn't going to change your lack of today's class notes." She says.

"Okay fine whatever. Can I take a picture of yours?"

"For 50$ a paper, of course, you can." She says.

"Dude are you kidding?! You have like 3 pages worth!"

"Then you'd better choose wisely." She says.

"Forget it, I'd rather take my chances winging it."

"Would you two just stop it already! Zac you can take a picture of mine okay. Next time at least try to stay awake." Madison says.

"Thank you," Zac says with a smug face towards Kylen. He walks off while flipping his middle finger at Kylen.

"Offer is still on the table if you change your mind loser!" Madison shouts from a distance with a mug on her face.

"No thanks. That's what friends are for!" Zac shouts back.

"Ugh, you idiots," Madison says.

End Flashback

I hear a screech of blaring noises in the distance throbbing in my right ear as my bloody head lays on the alley concrete outside of maroon bar. Small distinct chatter sounds can be made out from a shadow of what appears to be a woman standing less than 10 meters away from where my body lays on the ground. I tilt my head slightly upwards to get a good look at the person in front of me. The shadow begins to take small steps. It has a limp to its walk as if something had injured it. "STAY BACK" I say yet the person and or creature continues to pace this way. I lay my head back on the ground afraid to gaze at this thing any longer. I start to feel the senses coming back into my body and somehow managed to get up after being knocked unconscious a little while ago. Frantically, I turn around to see if the shadow man is still in sight after dusting myself off. "Phew, deep breaths Zac
deep breaths it's all in your head".
