P.O.V.: Max Lee

Hugo was the best dog ever. I loved it when Dale brought him. But then he ran away. It was hard, because pitbulls were banned in Anaheim. Dale had to hide him. But everyone was upset.

I'd been going to the VA hospital for a few weeks for counseling. The fact that I almost lost Dianne was the last straw. My PTSD was getting to me. I needed help. Dale and Tabitha were willing to help. So every two days I went to a session with some other vets. Kelly came as well. It was a good time.

"Hugo?"

I turned around and saw a dog. One beat up and bruised dog. But wait..

I looked closer.

"Dale!" I yelled. "Dale he's back!"

Hugo ran over and began to lick my face.

"Hahahaha I missed you too buddy!" I smiled.

"Hey boy." Dale said as he got Hugo some water. "It's good to have you back."

"Kelly c'mere." I said.

"Hi Hugo!" Kelly said as she pet him.

"Doggie!" Billy said while giggling.

"Yes this is a doggie." I told him. "This is Hugo."

Hugo then began to lick Billy's face.

"Stop!" he said.

"He's injured pretty bad." Dale said. "Let's get him to the vet."

We tried to get him outside of the hospital grounds, but an officer stopped us.

"Stop!" the officer yelled. "That is an illegal animal within Anaheim city limits! By law you must hand over the dog."

"Or what?" Kelly asked.

"Or I will be forced to take the dog." the officer growled.

"You'll have to get through us." I replied.

"I can get through a bunch of cripples." the officer chuckled.

"Dale Reed. Captain. United States Navy."

"Brian Freeman. Corporal. United States Air Force."

"William Arnold. Sergeant. United States Army."

"Maxwell Lee. Staff Sergeant. United States Army."

"Kelly Lee. Sergeant 1st Class. United States Marine Corps."

"Franklin Jones. Captain. United States Coast Guard."

"Grant Sale. Master Sergeant. California National Guard."

The officer looked at us.

"So?" he chuckled. "You can't have a pitbull on property of the city of Anaheim."

"That's where you're wrong." I said. "This hospital is federal property."

"And last I checked, federal outranks city." Kelly replied.

The officer looked at us as if we were crazy.

"She's right." Ralph, the janitor, said. "Technically you're on property of the US government."

The officer put away his tazer and walked away.

We got Hugo into my van and drove him to the nearest vet. Four broken bones and a broken leg.
