Adaline had made it back in the house with little to no questions from Sarah or Miles. They had gotten used to her mood swings where she'd rather just hide out in her room for a while until things passed. And that was exactly was she had intended to do.
Unable to wrap her mind around the fact that Griffin was no longer in the hospital she wondered did he sneak out just to talk to her or had he been released? And why was he telling Doyle he was her mate when she clearly wasn't, since he was married. But one thing kept bothering her more than anything else, why was Doyle so threatened by Griffin? What was is about him that was threatening?
It was already getting late in the day so instead of joining Sarah and Miles for dinner, Adaline opted to just go to bed. Everything about that day had been more taxing than she originally thought. After closing her blinds and pulling the curtains shut Adaline grabbed her clothes making her way to the bathroom to shower before bed.
The warm shower calmed her tense muscles and worked out the sore spots she earned after napping in the forest earlier. Even when her days were exceptionally horrible she always felt like a good long shower could rejuvenate her and gave her a clean slate. After cleaning up she dried off and wrapped her hair up in a towel as she dressed in a pair of baggy sweats and a tank top.
Adaline walked back in her room, shutting the light off and immediately jumping in bed. But as she began to settle down things didn't seem right in the room, like someone else was in the room. She hadn't seen anyone when she walked in so who could possibly in the room. As she sat up she looked around the room, even the darkest corners of the room were visible to her as she looked around a fly buzzed around her. Swatting out of the way she went back to looking for those eyes that she could feel burning a hole into her.
A hot hand slipped around her covering her mouth and before she could scream of react she hear a quiet "Shhh," in her ear. 'Don't scream, Addie. It's just me.' He sent to her mentally
'What do you want?' Even in her head, Adaline's voice was angry and hurt.
'Some sweat pants would be nice.' He chuckled quietly from behind her.
'Let me go and I'll get you a pair.' Looking over her shoulder she eyed him giving him an annoyed glare since his hand was still clamped over her mouth. But a second later he removed his hand and let her get up from the bed. Adaline began rummaging through her dresser soon finding another pair of sweats and tossed them to him. 'There.'
'Thank you.' Griffin turned his back to her pulling the pants on and letting her see his bare backside. And even though she was mad at him she could still appreciate a nice ass, right?
'Now what do you want?'
'I needed to talk to you. You've got things wrong about me. I'm not married, that person was my crazy ass sister who finds it funny to always make my life more difficult. What I said out there earlier is the truth, you're my mate.' Griffin silently moved towards her.
'Griffin save the shit for someone who'll listen to you.' Pushing past him Adaline climbed back in her bed facing away from him.
The bed moved slightly as she felt warm arms wrapping around her waist. 'I promise you, I'm not married. I can't think of anyone else I want.' His voice in her head was so soft and loving she couldn't help to feel her uncertainty surrounding him melt away. 'Please talk to me.'
'What are you?'
'A shifter, I can shift into what ever I want, whenever I want. I'm not governed by the moon, and it doesn't force my to shift every month.' Griffin had nestled his body against the back of Adaline, he inhaled her sweet scent of vanilla and flowers causing his eyes to close in delight. 'Do I scare you?'
