vanessa thomas
here's the new plan. jack and johnson have separate rooms. haha, do you see where im going with this? no, okay cool. seeing as jack was upset about me visiting, but also me seeing them perform... johnson and i came up with an upgraded plan. it's sneakier, better, and a much bigger surprise.
basically, im waiting for my luggage now. jack has no idea johnson's gone because of their separate rooms. with that, johnson got out of hanging out with jack because he said he felt sick. johnson "retired to his room", but instead came to pick me up from the airport in a cab. here's where the plan has changed.
instead of me going back to the hotel and surprising jack, im going to sleep in johnson's hotel room. to avoid any tension, johnson is going to head back to jack's room and say he couldn't sleep. then, while they hangout, johnson is going to fall asleep on the couch "accidentally", leaving him in jack's room all night. jack will just go to sleep in his hotel bed as normal. in the morning, johnson will come back to his room and get ready or whatever. jack will leave with johnson, them heading out later on in the day to get ready for the show. their show starts at seven thirty, meaning i'll leave the hotel at seven.
johnson has informed security and some of their team that im here, so me going backstage isn't an issue. if they question me, i have a written letter from johnson and their manager's number for the confirmation. i will be hiding out in the dressing room, being able to watch from backstage until the end of the show. so yes, i will be watching him perform. when they are performing their last song, i'll head back to the dressing room.
johnson is going to make sure jack calls me as he's walking to the dressing room, that way he thinks nothing is up. johnson said usually, when they're done a show, he encourages jack to call me because he knows jack will pass out as soon as he hits a couch or bed. this way, as he's calling me and talking to me, he will open the door and find me sitting in their dressing room on the phone with him. and there's the new, upgraded, better plan to surprise jack.
after retrieving my luggage, i read the text from johnson that informed me of where he and the cab driver sat. to ensure that he didn't waste money, he let the cab driver leave that dropped him off here awhile ago, ordering a new one just moments after i landed. smart kid, i tell you.
johnson's light blonde hair is evident to my eyes, his circular glasses also evident. he had yet to see me, so i begin to jog. he had become a pretty close friend of mine, especially since i live in the same house as him. i wouldn't say we're as close as him and jack, obviously, but we're good friends now. it's nice.
"johnson!" i yell as if im a coach, my voice deepening to make it sound as if i were mad at him.
he looks around, confused and disoriented. i begin to giggle, giving it away that i was near. he turned to me and smiled, "hey ness! how was your flight?"
i chuckle, "super nice. only fifty five minutes. how are you doing? how was the show tonight?"
he shrugs, "pretty good. pretty much the same as all of the other ones."
"does he have any idea?" i ask, worried that jack may be catching on. we get into the cab, johnson informing me on jack's attitude as of late.
"he has no idea, no. he's been so insanely moody, vanessa. like insanely. and im not just talking moody as in fussy and angry, but he gets tears welled up in his eyes as we're performing. if he's singing a verse that reminds him of you, if he remembers you dancing to a song he sung you or around you, if it's a song that you said was your favourite. he begins to tear up on stage and the audience goes 'aww'. it's crazy, he's insanely moody. kind of like he has a legit man period."
as he's talking, i can't help but giggle despite how bad i feel, "i don't know why he's like this. we've done this before, but being away for eight months is pretty intimidating. did he believe you're sick?"
he nods, "completely. he said he wasn't tired, so he'll be up for a bit. you can text him while you're in my hotel room, even call him, you just can't scream or anything. he might hear you."
"the fact we're going to be so close and he has no idea is hilarious" i admit, "oh shit, he's calling me."
my phone lights up with jack's id.
"text him and say you're about to go in the shower or something" johnson shrugs.
"just, sh. i'll answer and say im doing something. hello?" i answer the phone, johnson covering his mouth.
"hey babygirl. what are you doing?" jack asks with a sigh.
i smile at his voice, "hey babe. uh, not doing really anything. but i was just about to get into the shower. is it okay if i call or text you back when im out? i just finished working out, so im pretty sweaty and gross feeling."
he chuckles, "of course, baby. talk to you soon."
"talk soon, babe" i say, hanging up the phone.
johnson laughs, "he doesn't suspect anything?"
i shake my head, "not that i know of."
he smiles with excitement, "this is gonna be great!"
