Chapter 2

Alexis

*BRING*

“Stupid alarm.” I mutter pushing the warm covers off the bed and yawning whilst I try and get up. School again. It’s really not a thing I enjoy that much. Well, who does? I do enjoy one of my classes though. It’s an extra class I’m taking which we students call “filmography”. It’s everything you need to know about movies from the past up until now. We sometimes do even get to film stuff, but not anything professional since we’re still only in high school. The most we have gotten up until now is a commercial about chocolate which I’ve got to admit was pretty lame. We weren’t working so hard just for a commercial. But I guess we’ll get there eventually.

“Lexi! Breakfast!” My mother yells from downstairs.

“I’m coming mom.” I scream as I jump off the bed and start getting ready.

Just after 20 minutes I’m walking down Corso Porta Borsari Street and staring at all the shop windows glaring what’s inside. Verona is really a wonderful place to live in. The sights, the streets, the malls, everything is so magnificent. The whole city gives a feeling of magic in the air. I can understand why everyone thinks of it as the city of love and romance. You can smell it in the air. And not to mention that Juliet’s wall is here. Every heartbroken person from all around the world visits Verona just for Juliet’s wall. They write down letters asking for Juliet’s advice on love hoping that some day she will answer them. I personally have never tried writing a letter to Juliet. I don’t even get the big deal around the whole thing. I mean, it’s just a wall, nothing special. But I guess it’s how these people express themselves, how they let go of the pain the heart break is giving them.

“Hey Lexi!” My friend from Film Class calls to me.

“Emily! Hi!” I hug her. “I’m not late, am I?”

“No. The bell hasn’t rung yet. Don’t worry about it.”

“Oh, thank goodness. I thought I was late. I got caught up in---“I don’t even have time to finish because she cuts in.

“You were sightseeing on Corso Porta Borsari Street.” She finished for me. “Gosh Lexi, you moved here from London five whole years ago and you still love sightseeing like you’re a tourist, right?”

“Yes, I do.” I giggle. “I can’t help it if Verona is such a beautiful city. Also it’s easy for me to sightsee because I can actually speak Italian unlike some people I know.”

“You’re talking about me aren’t you?” She laughs playfully punching me in the shoulder.

“No. Other people.” I laugh sarcastically.

“Other people, other ‘smiaple’.” She giggles. “I’ve only lived here a year whilst you have five years. It’s not the same.”

“Well, it isn’t but you have to have learned something by now.”

“Well ‘Ja’.” She replies.

“That’s German.” I point out.

“I mean ‘Oui.’” She tries again.

“And that’s French.” I hold back a laugh.

“Okay, I am not good with languages. End of story.” She smiles linking arms with me. “And now we have a class to attend.”
