Before any of the elders could have started planning, Shan Cai had spoken too soon.
"It is best if Dao Ming Si and I will talk about this proposal privately. Since both parties were expected to benefit from this union, I suggest you leave the rest of the details to the two of us."
She gave him a look.
"I will expect your visit to my office on one of these days."
How business-like she is.
How professional.
How sad.
She is unnerving him.
Because right here right now, she's already sending the feeling of who's the boss here. And he doesn't like it.
But all he could do is grit his teeth.
Because it was them who needed immediate help.
The Dao Ming empire assets were not liquid. What they have were non-moving assets. Lands. Hotels. But they need cash. And they have already maximized their borrowing capacity. Competition is further pushing them downward. He knew his mother wouldn't risk exposing their company's financial vulnerability just to anyone. He knew Chen Kun. He is an old friend of the Dao Ming Family. And truth be told, if there is someone who could assist them now without threatening their ownership of their own empire, it would be Chen Kun.
So why doesn't he just lend them a loan or buy a share so he could help them in this sticky situation where they are currently stuck?

Discussing random things can give you insights you would probably missed if you do not know how to listen.
Chen Kun is planning to retire. The sad news is his most trusted CFO has gone ahead of him.
In as much as he wanted to spare Shan Cai of the obligation to carry on the family's legacy, he has no one but his grand daughter. Her parents died on a car accident when she was six.
The down side of having a woman as an heir is that she is at risk of being manipulated by people around her.
When she reached the age of eighteen, many already lined up to take her as their wife.
As if she was a thing.
As if she was a prize.
As if she was a lifeline.
Chen Kun needed a good man for Shan Cai. A man who wouldn't use her for leverage. A man who wouldn't seize her seat of power. A man who would protect her from the schemes of people who would plan her downfall.
The Stanford Industries is a company built purely on trust. But people age and so is the company. Chen Kun has seen his friends go ahead of him. Until from the original members of the board, he was now the only left.
Alone and on his own.
You trusting the father doesn't follow that you can trust the child too.
Chen Kun is of old age already and could no longer spend time to go through each potential candidate for Shan Cai.
Until he ran into Dao Ming Feng early last year.
The tired CEO has mentioned to him how pitiful is their current situation. He did has shown sympathy but he suddenly remembered the son of Dao Ming Feng when he saw him featured in the lifestyle section of a broadsheet.
The credentials of Dao Ming Si were not made up. These were based on facts. And he wasn't even yet done with his masters. The child has the tiger prowess in business. He is cut for it.
The potential of the child is very promising.
It was on that unexpected meeting that Chen Kun aspired to have the handsome young man for his precious girl.
Dao Ming Si screams pride. His personality is too strong.
He wouldn't take advantage of Shan Cai. It doesn't suit his character.
On the other hand, he could help Shan Cai. Dao Ming Si has the making of a perfect CFO. When he brought this up to Dao Ming Feng, they soon agreed. The possibility is too good to ignore.
And so this dinner meeting is now being held to put all the planning into action.
The proposal is meant to be a win-win for both parties.
Dao Ming Si is so used to praises already. Chen Kun openly shown him the admiration he deserves. His mother is very proud.
But what made him taste his food bitterly is the poker face of the girl sitting in front of him.
She remained unimpressed.
Still ice cold.
And the one more thing that is now irritating him is that he couldn't stop himself on getting curious about the silent girl.
He wanted to ignore her, to refuse to acknowledge her existence.
But she was already occupying his head since the time he laid his eyes on her.
