Eerie

As soon as I burst through the front door I noticed that Kai was standing there as if he was waiting for me. I looked to him and then around to the living room, he just shook his head and nodded towards the door to Baen's office. I let out a sigh of relief and then tried to book it to my room where I could quickly lock myself in for the next three days. Kai apparently saw my intentions in my eyes because he stepped in front of me, effectively blocking my path. I put my hands together in a silent prayer as I looked up at him pathetically. He just sighed and grabbed my wrist and just as we turned to hide, we heard his voice. I felt a chill run down my back as I looked at Kai and pleaded with my eyes, but whether or not he would have saved me we would never know because it was then that Magnus found us,

"Eerie! It's been far too long, my dear." I glared at him as he grabbed my hand out of Kai's and pulled me closer to him. He then looked at Kai with disdain. "Kai." Kai just rolled his eye at him and crossed his arms over his chest. I sighed in defeat as I looked at one of two vampires that I knew that were almost as old as Baen. I then began to look around behind Magnus for the other one. That was when I heard the shrill voice that I hadn't missed the last couple of years as Magnus's twin sister Morrigan all but launched herself at Kai. I heard him growl upon impact with the feisty redhead who had clearly been lusting after Kai for the last couple of hundred years at least. Magnus's affections for me, on the other hand, are rather recent. Kai and I both looked to Baen to end this madness since the two of us had made it perfectly clear that we were not interested. He gave us an apologetic look as he mouthed,

"It's only for two days." I rolled my eyes and had to fight back the squirm I was feeling by being so close to Magnus. Don't get me wrong though, he was drop-dead gorgeous like many of our kind were, with the same deep red hair and bright green eyes as his sister. He was tall and muscular, but he was an ass clown. Magnus hasn't been told no since probably before Jesus was born, and I guess his charming ways didn't work on me, which was basically him barking orders and me swooning I became his conquest. I groaned as I pulled my hand out of his only to see disappointment in his eyes as he said with a faint smile,

"Ah, I thought that maybe you had finally succumbed to my charms." I wiped my hand on my jeans and said,

"You have a better chance of charming a dragon." He scowled and I could feel the energy building in the room. I glared up at him and said through my teeth,

"If you make lightning streak through this house again I swear I will rip your mind apart to the point you will only be able to suck blood through a straw." His eyes widened, but he must have believed me because the built-up energy began to dissipate. I then heard a shriek that would have put a banshee to shame and looked over to Kai and Morrigan. He had forcibly removed himself from her, and she was not too happy about it. I had finally had enough with their superpower temper tantrums. I grabbed Kai's hand and pulled him up the stairs after me as I carefully let my mind slip into Baen's and told him that this was his alliance issue and that he needed to deal with it before Kai and I did, and he would not like that outcome. I chanced a look back at him as I reached the top of the stairs and saw him nod in agreement.

Kai and I sat on my bed as we watched the movies that I had gotten him for Christmas, and he looked through the translation dictionary with a look of confusion on his face. I laughed at him as I said,

"It's really not that hard." He glared at me over the book and said,

"These aren't even letters. It's all just squiggles. How did you learn this?" I shrugged as I took the book from his hands,

"I was super young, and I grew up with it, in fact, I  didn't learn English until I went to school." I laughed to myself, "Now that was funny, here I was a little Russian girl attending an all American school during the cold war. The teachers asked me so many questions thinking that I was a little spy." He sat up and he asked,
