Keeping Warm

Winter had come upon you as you were on the road heading south. You would expect the weather to get better the further south you traveled, but that was not the case. The wind was pulling you in every direction and the snow was making everything just a bit more tricky. It was impossible to start a fire, and hunting was not easy.

You and Sandor were on your horses, following the road the best you could in the snow. It covered every inch of ground around you, as well as the air, limiting your view to only a few meters ahead of you.

In the distance you saw something glowing yellow, standing out from the white of the snow. You assumed the glow was from fire. Your horse slowly walked closer, pushing its way against the wind, revealing a house. The yellow glow was emitting from torches inside the building, meaning there were people, and shelter.

"Sandor!" you shouted at Sandor who was riding on his horse close behind you. You pointed to the house in the distance. He didn't reply, but you headed for the house, hoping for shelter. Sleeping outside wasn't going to be an option in this storm, you would risk freezing to death.

You reached the house and got off your horses. You looked through the little window and saw people drinking, eating and having a good time.

"It's an inn," you said and grinned, looking up at Sandor standing beside you.

"We're damn lucky with this one," Sandor said, a slight smile on his face.

You put your horses in the small horse stall on the side of the inn before heading inside.

As you entered the inn, the smell of meat and the heat from the fire hit you hard, making you shiver. The noise quickly died out and the people at the inn turned their heads to look the two of you standing by the door. Sandor, being so used to getting stared at, walked through the crowded inn and sat down at an empty table in the corner of the inn, you following closely behind.

As you sat down across from each other, you removed your wet capes and gloves, revealing your red hands. You tried to wiggle your fingers, but they had gotten too stiff from the cold to move. "Fuck," you muttered and put your hands between your thighs to warm them.

"We'll spend the night here," Sandor said. "Can't be running around in the storm."

"You're right," you simply answered.

Seconds later, a small, old lady came running over to your table.

"How may I help the two of you?" she said, her hands folded in front of her chest. She seemed blissed to be serving you, making you assume she was probably the innkeeper.

"We want chicken and ale," Sandor said. You smiled apologetically at his rude answer.

"Yes please and thank you," you said. "And two beds would be lovely."

"Chicken and ale is no problem, as for the beds... I can only offer you one to share, we are completely packed tonight! The weather has got everyone seeking shelter," she said.

You looked up at Sandor. He was looking at you as if seeking approval. You shrugged as if saying yes.

"It'll do," Sandor said.

"Great! I'll bring you your food and drinks and I'll show you to your room after," she said smiling, and walked away.

The old woman quickly came back to your table with two plates of chicken and two large mugs of ale. "Here you go, you two!" she quickly said before rushing over to tend to another table.

Only seconds after finishing your dinner the old woman came running back to your table. "All finished?"

"Aye, show us the room," Sandor said and got up, you following.

"This way, you two!" the old lady minced towards a staircase at the back of the inn, you followed her upstairs and into a rather small bedroom. It contained a reasonably sized bed covered with two big pieces of fur, a small table with one chair, and of course a fireplace. It was probably intended to be used by just one person. "Here you are," she said. "Enjoy," she said with a glint in her eye and left the room.

You were quick to move over to the fireplace to provide the room with some heat and light. When you turned back around Sandor was putting his few possessions on the little table. You started removing your cold and wet armor to put them in front of the warm fire to dry them off for tomorrow.

"You take the bed," Sandor said, making you turn around to look at him. You saw him moving one of the fur blankets from the bed to the floor.

"Wh-no! Why can't we share the bed?" you said.

"You don't want that."

"Yes I do. The floor is bloody cold; we're sharing the bed," you said, continuing removing your wet clothing.

"A pretty lady like you shouldn't be sharing a bed with someone like me."

"That's not true," you said quietly as you finished removing your armor.

Left only wearing your tunic, you quickly walked over to Sandor. You grabbed the fur blanket and moved it back into the bed.

"We're sleeping together, you have no choice," you said and got into the bed. "Come on," you said and patted on the empty space beside you.

Sandor sighed. "You're a stubborn little lady," he said, making you grin.

"I just need you to keep me warm," you said. Sandor smiled at your feisty comment. He removed his armor the same way you did, before finally getting into the bed beside you.

Sandor laid down on his back, his hands folded resting on his stomach. You laid on your side, grabbing ahold of the furry blanket, hugging it to your chest. You couldn't quite manage to get warm. It was close to impossible for you to fall asleep when you were freezing. You tucked the blanket closely around your body, making sure no cold air could seep through. You put your bare knees up to your chest and rubbed your hands up and down your arms to try and get warm, but to no help.

You felt the heat from Sandor just inches away from your cold feet. You slowly slid your feet in under his blanket and pressed them onto his warm skin, making you shiver. He gasped and grabbed ahold of you ankle in shock.

"Seven Hells, woman!" he burst out, making you chuckle.

"Sorry!" you quickly said. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. I'm bloody cold." His grip loosened, but he kept his hand resting on you.

"Come 'ere," he muttered as he snuck his big arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer to him. His sudden act of affection made you blush, you felt your blood rushing through your body. You stretched your legs out, allowing you to press your whole body against him. His long arm was wrapped around you, his big hand resting on your back. You put your head on his chest and snuggled closer to him.

"Thanks," you whispered and put your hand on his chest.

"You move too much," he said, excusing himself from showing you affection by keeping you warm. You just grinned at his remark, now glad you had been moving around.

The feeling of the heat coming from the big man close to you and the sound of his heavy breathing finally made you sleepy.

"Goodnight, Sandor," you whispered.

"Goodnight, little lady," Sandor replied, resting his chin on your head.
