Chapter Four – Adrian’s P.O.V.

Okay, standing here looking my beautiful damn mate in the eyes, was a lot harder than I imagined. She held my pup in her soft damn arms rubbing her in a caring way. Let me guess, ‘how did you know?’ I wasn’t an idiot I knew she was mine since I laid eyes on our beautiful damn green eyed pup. I knew Jenivy wouldn’t want me to know but I could smell my blood running deep in her little veins.  My mate protected her even though she was my child. When most other females would hate to look into the mirroring face of their rejecting mate, mine loved and cherished her. My mate was strong and beautiful.

Jenivy would always hate me though.  She would never allow me to explain to her why I needed to keep her safe. Why I drove her away from our home, from the love my wolf was begging to show her. He has gone silent now, hasn’t spoken for three dreadful years. They say losing your mate might kill you and drive you to insanity. But that only happens if your wolf either dies or goes insane first. My wolf knows we have a pack to lead, so he just lets me lead it, slowly fading away. I had to protect her though; my dear damn Jenivy would never understand that.

“It’s none of your concern, Alpha,” her boyfriend spoke up. My wolf spoke up for the first time, his words none too kind.

‘Die! Replacement! Kill him! Stole my mate!’ he didn’t even allow me a minute to respond before he had him pinned up to a tree. I watched my hand go to his throat without any control over it. Who was I kidding? I wanted this just as much. He didn’t deserve my gorgeous damn mate, no one truly did. I know what an ass? But when the spirits chose a mate for someone, which is the only person who could love them completely.

“Mine! She’s mine!” he spoke to him as he moved to kill the only male in his way, the only person who his loving damn mate has chosen over him, over us.

“Adrian no!” her screams brought me back the control I needed to get. I shoved Mason away from me as I growled. I couldn’t stand to see his smug smirk on his face. He thought he won. I laughed as I turned my back on him, walking to my beautiful damn mate and our child. Her eyes were wide as she shielded my pup from me.

“Jenivy, I’m sorry. He should have never spoken up. I was talking to you sweet mate, not him. My wolf didn’t have the patience for that. I'm sorry,” I spoke softly as I tried to get closer to her and my pup. I heard the warning growl as I reached for my daughter. My hand stopped in midair as I saw my little girl escape Jenivy’s arms and race to Mason.

“Daddy!!” her scared voice yelled as he pulled her into his arms. Wrong. My wolf was begging for control again and I let him. I quickly shifted into my wolf, not caring about the shredded clothes, or the warning growls from Jenivy. I looked at my daughter curled up next to him, realizing she was never mine. I was just a damn sperm donor to them.

“Daddy, why wolfy sad?” Audrey asked him, as she reached a small hand towards me. My wolf whimpered as he moved towards her. Mason pulled her back as soon as her hand touched my snout. He growled at me, while keeping my pup from him. I watched as my little girl squirmed out of his arm and ran towards me. She hugged my hind leg as she attempted to climb onto me.

“Audrey, no! Get away from him!” My beautiful damn mate yelled. She simply giggled and held onto my neck. I could feel her soft breath as she smiled. Her excitement was obvious, just like before she turned. I remember the screams from the children, as they saw her bones break, so I rushed to take her to a safe spot in the woods. I may have missed most of her life but I refused to miss her first change.

“Go wolfy hurry! Before mommy catch us!” she giggled as she held on tightly. I then did the one reasonable thing to do in a situation like this. I ran. I pushed my legs further and further and further scraping my stomach on branches as I tried to prevent her getting hurt. I took all around my territory, showing her what could all be hers one day. I stopped running as I reached a small cave. I walked inside to find a change of clothes. I slipped on shorts and a wife-beater as I went to go get Audrey.

“Honey, is Mason your daddy,” I asked my little pup as I saw how tired she was. A slight yawn passed her lips as I laid out a few blankets for her.

“No. He mommy friend.” She giggled as she laid on the blankets. She looked around as if she lost something. She looked up at me with the purest, innocent green eyes I've ever seen. “Where Bunny?”

I laughed as I picked her up and brought her inside the cave. I knew one of the boxes had toys in case we needed to hide the mother and children. I eventually came across it.

“Take as many as you want, sweetheart. It’s all yours.” Her eyes widened as she realized what I told her. Next thing I knew, Audrey jumped inside the box filled with stuffed animals. She looked at each one naming them all sorts of names. Soon she was in a deep slumber holding onto a teddy bear I knew too well. It used to belong to me when I was a child. I picked up the box and carried my daughter home, to a pack she will lead one day.

Lovely Damn Jenivy was the first to notice my arrival, and I could smell the anger she wasn’t even trying to conceal. She looked beautiful though. I couldn’t help but taunt her as I shush her, pointing to our sleeping angel. Her anger only increased.

“How dare you run off with my daughter? How dare you! She could’ve gotten hurt! Give her to me now!” She raised her voiced and my wolf did not approve of her tone. As her mate, he wanted to lay low; ears laid back, tail behind his legs, and beg for forgiveness. As her Alpha though, he wanted to teach her her place.

“Do not put this on me, Jenivy. You took my daughter from me before I even had the chance to know of her. You lied to me about her! She is not Mason’s daughter. She belongs with her blood pack. She deserves to have her father in her life.” I spoke harshly until I saw dear Audrey starting to wake. I pulled her out of the box as I held her close to me. I refuse to lose my daughter, for I'm afraid I already lost my mate.

Audrey looked up at to me in a half awaken state. She mumbled one word that made me know I couldn’t give up on her. That I needed to fight for my pup and my mate, my family. “Daddy?”

A single tear fell from my eyes as I held my pup. I ignored my mate as I responded on to Audrey, changing her life.

“Yes baby girl, I am your daddy. Welcome home, my sweet angel. Welcome to your pack.”
