"What are we going to do?" Lizzy groaned, from next to me, she was leaning back into the couch. Her hands rubbing her face.
There were currently 6 people in the room with me, all discussing the problem at hand. On the couch of three consisted of me, Lizzy, and Richy. Two sitting in the chair near the couch being, Alison and Reyna. Then Ayame and Ran up pacing around frantically.
"I can't believe the mayor actually got the whole city in this type of trouble," Alison mumbled under her breath sadly. "The whole city is going to get purged." She finished.
"Ran-Ran, are we going to die?" Richy piped up quietly.
Ran stopped his pacing and looked over at Richy, taking nervous glances at Ayame, her brown hues glossed over with worry. "Of course not little man! We're going to get out of this, okay? We're going to be just fine."
" . . .What about the city? Are they all going to die?" Richy finally looked up at the group. We sat in silence, thinking over what the little blonde child just asked.
Ran sighed rubbing his eyes in frustration. "I-I don't know Richy, I don't know." Ran usual bubbly self was at a complete 180. He sat down on the arm of the chair Reyna was sitting in. He put his head in his hands and didn't say anything further.
"Ian, you haven't said a thing all day . . ." I heard Ayame say, directing that at me. I glanced up from the floor. I wasn't one to show how I feel about things or be emotional in general.
I stood up letting out a sigh. "There's nothing we can do about it. Let's just worry about ourselves. The city isn't our problem." I let out, walking toward the exit of the living room.
"Heartless as always . . ." I heard someone mumble.
That's what my old man use to say to me . . .
Flashback
"What did ya' find Ian?" The old man that took care of me wobbled up behind me, wanting to take a look at what I was staring at.
"Oh no, poor thing. A cat must have gotten to it." He said as we both looked down at a baby bird lying dead on the grass in front of us. He sighed and walked away.
I continued to stare at the bird, a cat didn't kill it, While Ryan and I were messing around I pushed him into the tree, causing the bird to fall out. He ran into the house in tears, obviously heartbroken about the birds death.
But I? I felt nothing, no pity, nothing. I was confused, I thought I'd be traumatized, but, that wasn't the case though. But I felt bad for making Ryan cry. I should be in there making him feel better, being his older brother and all but, I didn't know what to do when someone is crying.
"Ah, Ian, why do you gotta act so heartless all the time?"
End
Stop in the doorway that belonged to my extremely ill brother's room. He was on death's door at the moment, and the situation we were in didn't help his condition.
He was asleep, having trouble trying to breathe, sweating a river, face redder than a tomato. He didn't have much longer left before his body gave up. Maybe 3 months or 4.
I thought back to the time where he and I sat down with our old lady as she tried teaching us some of her magic. I already taught myself when she and Ryan weren't around. Mostly water control since we lived on a beach but also some rune magic, and gem enhancement.
I acted like it was new to me anyway.
An idea came into my head at that memory. My family was the 5th generation of the Atwater family. The Atwater's were known to be talented in magic. My old man died in a past magic war. What was it for again?
