"Was I really that annoying?" Gabby asked.
"More so, but only because I wanted everything done a certain way and you did everything your own way. You learned very quick though and you always wanted to learn more." Brooke said.
"I don't remember any of that stuff."
"Oh, I can guarantee that you do. You were nearly as deadly as I am by the time Abby came along."
"Why didn't you teach me anything?" Abby asked.
"Your father wouldn't allow her to. He said he only needed one deadly kid in the family." Lucian said.
"Not to mention Gabby went through some really bad PTSD from the training and Linc couldn't stand watching her suffer." Brooke said.
Brooke was training her advanced class and Gabby was helping. Brooke called out two names, when they stepped forward, she explained that they would have to protect one and try and take the other out. Gabby was setting up for the class when a masked figure crashed through one of the windows. Brooke watched ready to pounce if necessary. Gabby turned as the person ran at her.
She ducked as they went to grab her. When she came back up, she put the person in a head lock. When they stopped struggling, Gabby dropped him. Brooke clapped and laughed as Anthony began to cough. Gabby glared at Brooke and then began to laugh. Anthony stood up and his face was as red as a baboons ass.
"You will have to try better than that to get the drop on me Anthony." Gabby said.
Brooke came up behind her silently and took her to the ground effectively disarming her. Gabby looked shocked at her.
"Don't get too cocky, even if you have effectively taken you opponent out. You always have to watch your back."
Brooke helped Gabby up. At seventeen Gabby had come a long way, but she still had a lot to learn. By twenty Gabby would be as deadly as Brooke. Brooke felt a lot of pride for how far she had come along.
"Thanks Brooke." Gabby said.
"Let's get ready for class, you're going to train today."
"Me?"
"Yes, today we are training on daggers. That is where your specialty lies. I want to see how you do training the advance class with them."
Gabby smiled a huge smile that nearly covered her whole face. Brooke never smiled, yet she smirked at the happiness in Gabby's eyes. The class began to trickle in, and Brooke stood at attention waiting for them to get to their places.
"Class, get to your places and stand at attention. NOW!" Brooke said in her commander voice.
The class ran to their spots and faced forward. Brook waited silently for them to follow orders. When everyone was settled, Brooke decided that for an advanced class they moved too slow.
"Why are you here?" Brooke asked.
When no one answered Brooke stepped forward.
"Why are you here?" Brooke yelled.
"We are here to learn how to defend the royal family." Gabby answered.
"Thank you, Gabriella. Since none of you seem to know how to answer me, take thirty laps. Go Now!"
The class started jogging around the training room. Brooke watched them intently to see who was being lazy. Those who were lazy had no place on her team. Once they finished and were standing back in their places, Brooke stepped forward.
"Kyle, Lindsey, and Asiel, step forward."
When the moved forward Brooke whistled. Anthony and Kenneth came into the room.
"Take these three out, they are no longer a part of this class, you know where to take them."
Anthony and Kenneth nodded and took them out of the room. Gabby watched disinterested, knowing that she would see them again, as they were being drained of blood.
"As for the rest of you, this is not a fucking game. You are here to learn how to protect the royal family. If you are not committed to their protection than you can follow those three. Am I understood?"
"Yes, Ma'am." They called out.
"Now today is daggers. Gabriella, as my most advanced student with daggers, will be training this class. Under my supervision. You will all give Gabriella the same respect you give me."
After the class finished and three students were carried out on stretchers Brooke and Gabby left the others to clean up and walked outside. Gabby was unusually quiet. Brooke looked at her and sighed.
"Usually I wouldn't ask but you are really quiet and now I am worried so tell me what is wrong?"
"I had to hurt them to train them. I don't like that."
"You are a vampire. You literally hurt people for a living. Why does cutting people make you so upset?"
"Well drinking blood keeps me alive but hurting people out of spot is something different."
"Not so much, you are a princess and a vampire, that makes you a target, twice as much. You will have to learn to put aside your emotions to keep yourself and your family safe."
"How do you do it?"
"When I was a kid, I learned that emotions only got you in trouble. So, I learned how to bury my emotions deep down. Now I am not telling you to bury your emotions, but you have to learn to deal with them."
"It is just hard to separate my feelings when I have to hurt others."
"So, we will have to teach you how to be deadly without having to hurt others."
"You can do that?"
Brooke nodded and walked Gabby into the throne room. Linc and Bella were holding court when they walked in. Everyone bowed and Gabby pasted a smile on her troubled face. She walked over to her chair and sat down. Brooke stood behind her at attention.
Linc nodded at her and smiled at his daughter. He stood up and cleared his throat.
"People tonight eat and be merry tomorrow we will be going to war."
Brooke's head whipped around and looked at Linc. She realized that her father and uncle were not in the room. Linc had decided without the advice of counsel. When she looked back at the crowd, she thought she was going to faint. Brooke thought that she would never see that face again.
The man nodded at the king and smiled at Brooke. She leaned over to Elizabeth and told her to stand guard over Gabby. She then exited the room silently and ran through the halls to her father's room. When she broke in the door, she knew something was wrong.
Her father's things were no longer in the room. She ran to Michael's room and it was the same there. Her heart beat fast as she ran down to the war room. She entered silently and invisibly. Linc, Samuel, and Bella were sitting at the table talking.
"Where did Brooklynn go?" Samuel asked.
"She probably went to go and find Lucian and Michael." Bella said.
"Did you do as I advised?" Samuel asked
"Yes, he doesn't know that she is alive. He and Michael have left the council." Linc said.
"Good and my prize for outing the traitors?"
"Gabriella will be your bride, but Brooke has served us well. She remains here under my protection. You will have no contact with her ever." Linc said.
Samuel smiled and exited the room. Brooke followed him out silently. Her emotions were running on overdrive. She realized that not only had her biological father survived but he was now a vampire.
