Chapter One

"Return"

The group from the expedition returned today. I haven't heard much

news about them, but I sure hope they found something. I'm

glad they are all safe though. I don't think I could have handled

if there was another death like Emily's. That was awful.

                                                                                                                 -B.G.

The crowd slowly dispersed as the car drove off. Grizz, Gwen, Bean, and Mickey all stood where they were, still in shock of what they had just witnessed. Luke's words still rang in Grizz's ears. How could so much have changed? They were only gone one week. Gwen was the first to break the silence.

"Well what the fuck do we do now?"

"Well," Grizz responded. "I suggest we all go home and clean up and rest. We can regroup later."

"We're gonna ignore what just happened?" Mickey asked.

"You have a better idea?" Grizz barked back.

Mickey backed down, biting his lip. Grizz didn't mean to snap at him. Honestly, he was scared. He had no idea what was happening and Allie had just been arrested for who knows what. He couldn't think of what to do. He looks down at the ground.

"I agree, let's all take some time to recuperate" Gwen says finally.

Mickey and Bean nod and start to head off towards where they are staying. Gwen turns to Grizz and puts a hand on his shoulder. Grizz looks up.

"You okay?" She asks.

"Not really" He answers.

"Well you should probably start by showering, you smell" Gwen jokes, trying to lift his spirits. He appreciates the attempt.

"I was staying at Allie's house. It feels weird going there while she's not there" Grizz says.

"Well you weren't the only person staying there so I'm sure it's fine." Gwen reassures him.

Grizz nods and begins to walk away. Gwen stands still for a moment and then finally pipes up.

"Hey Grizz?"

Grizz turns around.

"I was staying with Lexie before." Gwen says shyly. "I'd rather not go back there. Do you think there's room for me at the Pressman house?"

Grizz smiles lightly and nods. Gwen smiles back and walks with him.

--- --- --- --- --- ---

The door squeaked open as the two dirty teens enter the Pressman house. It was abandoned. It looked as if no one had been there in a couple of days. Grizz was confused.

"Where is everyone?" Gwen shares Grizz's confusion.

"I have no idea." Grizz mumbles.

He pulls out his phone, which he needs to charge and dials Gordie.

"Hello?" Gordie says through the phone.

"Hey, it's Grizz."

"Oh, hi! You guys are back?"

"Yeah just got back. Where is everyone. We are at Allie's."

"Most of us are down at the hospital."

"The hospital? Is everything alright?"

"Yeah everything's fine. Better than fine actually."

"What does that mean?"

Gwen is looking at Grizz with concern in her eyes.

"Becca had her baby." Gordie says excitedly.

Grizz feels his heart drop to his stomach. He had almost forgotten that. The pain from a week again goes swirling through him once again. The hurt, betrayal, loneliness. He feels tears begin to well in his eyes but he blinks them away.

"Hello, Grizz?" Gordie questions.

"Uh," Grizz tries his best to put on a good front, but knows his voice will give him away. "That's-that's great. Good for them."

"Everything alright?"

"Yeah, uh yeah" Grizz stammers. "Just happy that's all."

"Whatever you say. Hey I'll talk to you later okay?"

"Yeah, see ya."

Grizz hangs up and slowly lowers the phone looking down at the ground. Gwen walks over to him, concerned.

"Grizz what's wrong? Did someone get hurt?" Gwen questions.

"What? Oh, no no no" Grizz forces a smile "Becca had her baby."

"Oh that's great!"

"Yeah it is."

--- --- --- --- --- ---

Grizz lets the hot water rush over him, washing away the dirt and grime from the week in the woods. His hair was plastered to his face. He stared at the shower drain wishing the water could wash away his pain. Why did he have to get involved with Sam? He could of just continued to pretend to be straight. No one had suspected anything. Instead he followed his heart and ended up getting crushed. He cared about Sam. They really connected. But Sam had thrown that away. Grizz thought back to when they were leaving for the expedition and Sam came to say goodbye. The pain that tortured him having to look into Sam's blue eyes knowing the pain he felt inside. Grizz lets tears escape his eyes as he thinks about it. He knows he will have to avoid Sam now. Grizz has made some bad decisions in the past, but he was not going to mess up a family. Grizz began to sob.

He slid down the shower wall and cried, letting his salty tears mix with the steamy water as he sat.
