"Everything is not what it seems."
Mari Vera lives with her uncle in Hawkins, Indiana, a town that is way behind the times. Seriously... You ask someone what a cell phone is and they look at you like you're crazy. Mari was a perfectly normal...

The kids now sat in the principal's office. Hopper and the other officer sat in front of them. Mari had to admit, this was a little intense. The boys started talking over each other which brought the intense mood down. She gave them a look and wondered how they thought anyone could understand them like that. The four of them were all cramped together on the couch and Mari sat in the middle. Their chatter was giving her a headache.
Mari tried to make herself heard, "Guys, don't speak over each othe--" They still continued to talk over one another. Mari cut herself off with a sigh.
Hopper jumped in, "Okay, okay, okay. One at a time, all right?" He pointed at Mike who looked slightly taken back. Mike nodded, "You. You said he takes... What?"
"Mirkwood." Mike replied. Mari wanted to speak, but didn't. Hopper wouldn't know what Mirkwood was. He had never even looked at the Lord of the Rings series. She tried to get him into it, but he would always brush her off and say that he was busy with work. He just never had the time to actually hang out with her. She didn't blame him though. His job was important to him.
"Mirkwood?" Mike nodded. Hopper turned to Callahan, "You ever hear of a Mirkwood?"
Officer Callahan seemed a little nervous. He stumbled over his words a little while trying to get out, "I have not. That sounds made-up to me."
"It I--" Mari was cut off.
"It's from 'Lord of the Rings.'" Mari glared at Lucas for cutting her off.
Dustin decided to correct him, "Well, 'The Hobbit.'"
Lucas slowly looked over at him, "It doesn't matter!"
"Guys!" Mari didn't bother to look at either of them.
"He asked!" Dustin exclaimed. Lucas mocked Dustin which made Mari sigh. She just couldn't deal with this at the moment. They are acting like three year olds in a serious situation. She was about to hit both of them. Mike tried to get them to stop too.
"Hey! Hey! Hey," Hopper got their attention, "What'd I just say? One at a damn time," The sheriff was obviously really annoyed over what they were doing. It was understandable too. Mari knew just how annoying it could get. He hasn't even seen the worst of it. Hopper look pointedly to Mike, again, "You."
"Mirkwood," Mike said, again. "It's a real road. It's just the name that's made-up."
