I stopped still in front of the all too familiar door. It was the door to our flat.
"Are you sure everybody's here?" I whisper.
She slowly nods her head, "Liam's been pretty torn up about everything, so of course we're all here trying to help him.," She trails off, "Are you ready?"
I wasn't sure how to answer that. My mouth tasted like copper, the way it does right before I get sick, but in spite of all that I nod my head. She slowly opens the door for me and leads me inside. The familiar voices float downstairs and from the kitchen.
"Gen? Is that you?" Niall. I watch as her face lights up. She really would be perfect with him.
"Yeah it's me, and I brought my friend Emily over."
The blond hair boy comes over to where we were and shakes his head, "You know nobody's up for company."
I could tell she was kicking herself and trying to think of an explanation.
"My car broke down, and it was raining. So, when I ran into Gen she let me come with her." I rushed to help her.
She shoots me a look of gratitude as Melody and Harry start walking down the stairs.
"Who the hell are you?" Harry snaps. Well that wasn't the curly haired boy I used to know.
"Uh, I-I'm Genevieve's friend, Emily," I could tell he didn't like me, though Melody tried her best to greet me politely.
"Nice to meet you." She said quietly like she was afraid to wake a sleeping beast. Which could easily be the case. Liam wasn't exactly a morning person, especially if he was upset the night before.
The rest of our old clique came tumbling down the stairs and they all gave me the same expression.
'What are you doing here? Can't you see we're all upset?'
They were mourning my death. I lean over to Gen, "I-I think I should go."
She doesn't exactly respond, but I could tell that she agreed with me.
"Uh, I'll call you later, Meg- I mean, Emily. I'll call you, Emily,".
I nod my head once, before I let myself out. I was only halfway out of the door before the tears began pouring down my cheeks. This was all so helpless. I'll never get my friends back, and if I can't even manage that, how am I supposed to talk to Liam?
"What the hell was that?" Maddie yells from behind me. "Why didn't you stay and get to know them again? I swear, you're freaking retarded."
I spin on my heel to face her, "They don't want to talk to anybody, okay!? They just want to be left alone! I can't get my life back. It's just not gonna happen."
She shakes her head, "I thought you were more determined than this. You've only been trying for 5 days. Did you think this was gonna be easy? Like, oh he'll look at you and say, 'It's you!' No, you didn't. So, why are you giving up all of a sudden?"
She actually had a good point. I didn't know what I was doing.
"If you loved him. You wouldn't give up."
That was actually pretty good advice. I knew she wasn't completely useless.
