play the song above when I give the signal

laken

"hey, hiccup?" I tap my best friend on the shoulder. he turns around with a grin.

"hey, shrimp! where have you been all day?" I shrug.

"here an' there. are you coming to the talent show tonight?" I ask, my British accent showing through

"of course! I have to support my bestie when she performs, do I not?" I roll my eyes and nudge him with my elbow.

"you don't have to, hic. I know your gonna get bored." it's his turn to shrug now.

"small price to pay. are you performing an original?" he asked. I write songs and perform them on the guitar as a hobby.

"yep. but you haven't heard this one yet. you'll know what it means when you hear it, hic. don't you worry" I send him a wink and he pretends to faint as I laugh at his childish antics.

"I gotta go set up, see ya later" I press a kiss to his cheek, as I always do, upon hearing the bell ring. I make my exit into the hall, where several other students are milling around. I slip backstage to where the instruments were stored. id prefer if people didn't know I was performing today, as they would make my life living hell because of it. I'm only doing this on my mentor's request. he says it will help 'boost my self-confidence' i roll my eyes at the thought, picking my guitar case up. it's a simple brown leather case, that has a dragon sewn into it. a gift from hiccup. I open it to see my guitar, a simple wood acoustic that's a blood-red color.

I sit on a chair and quickly tune it, before practicing through the song. the words flow freely and quietly from my mouth as I strum the simple chords. as the song ends, I take a deep breath.

this would usually be the part where my crush starts clapping from the doorway, telling me how amazing it was. but Nah, that's cliche. instead, the silence booms around me, speaking louder than words. I reach into my backpack and pull out my mask, that I intend to use for rehearsals today, and the performance itself. that way, when I rehearse, people won't know it's me, so I won't get picked on. I clip my hair to the back of my head in a simple do and slip the mask over my face.

I quickly slip myself into the beautiful dress as the music teacher calls us all. it's all black with a beautiful gold lace design bodice. it flares out and reaches about 3/4 of the way down my thighs.
