I was planning on walking to school until a car pulled up in front of my house. At first I was terrified because I thought it was my father, but it was just Hunter. He smiled and I forced a smile back at him.
"Come on lazy pants. Get in before I go without you," he told me opening the passenger door for me. I climbed in and looked at him.
"Didn't I tell you to stay away from me because you'll lose all your friends?"
"I mean you did tell me that, but I don't care. They are all jerks anyway," he smiled at me. He started the car and started to drive away. When we were about a minute away from the school he turned to me when we stopped at a light.
"Listen the kids at school they're not so nice. You shouldn't listen to what they say. We both know that everything going around is a lie. Just stay strong okay?" What he said worried me. What were they saying about me? Suddenly school seem much scarier than before.
We pulled up to the school and easily found a parking spot and we both got out. Everyone outside stopped at looked at us before they turned to one of their friends to gossip.
"You just dug your own grave," I said whispering to him.
"I'll be fine, just watch out for yourself. These are the sharks and you're just a fish." I signed at his words. I knew they were true, so I kept my head down and walked with Hunter next to me.
Walking down the hall I heard too many things.
"She faking it."
"She just wants attention."
"She's probably just a slut."
"I almost feel bad, but I don't."
"Why is he with her?"
"He's probably just pitying her."
"She's so stupid."
"Look at her arms."
"Gross."
"Fat."
"Disgusting."
"Annoying."
"Hog."
"Bitch."
"Cry baby."
"She's a joke."
"She'll never be one of us."
"Maybe she should have just died."
"Look at her arms."
"Ugly."
"Useless."
"She doesn't belong."
"Weak."
"What ugly scars."Again and again the words echo in my head. I knew they were true, but Hunter squeezed my hand giving me a little courage. I wish I had a sweatshirt or a long sleeve.
"Why'd you wear short sleeves?"
"My father took all my long sleeved shirts probably to teach me a lesson. I wish I could cover up though," I replied whispering to him. He looked at me with a sad look then stopped a little to the side of the hallway.
"Here," he said as he took off his jacket and offered it to me.
"I can't take that because then you'd be cold."
"It's seriously fine, I'll be fine, but you should cover up." I slightly smiled at him then put on the windbreaker he had on. It was very big on me because I was only 5'3 and 130 pounds, and he was 6'1 and about 250 pounds. He was very big and he wasn't even fat. He had a lot of muscles and played on a bunch of sports teams."You shouldn't stay with me. You're friends will seriously hate you and you'll be alone," I told him whispering when we started walking again. We both had first period gym today, so he was walking with me.
"You keep saying that and I keep telling you I'm fine with it. I don't care about them. I never really even liked them, they were so mean to everyone, and I'm not like that." I looked down at my feet as I heard more calls about how I didn't belong and how I should have just died. I tried to block it all out, but it didn't work and I still heard all of it.
Soon we reached the gym and we had to part ways to go to the different locker rooms. He looked at me sadly, and I just returned his stare with a sad smile. The moment I walked into the locker room everyone stopped and turned to look at me. Just keep walking and don't look up I told myself and I did just that.
Changing into my school gym uniform I walked out to where my class sits and I sat where no one else was. Soon enough Hunter came and joined me and the whispers increased."Hey, Hunter come over here!" Drew yelled to Hunter who didn't notice me next to him. After a long pause of no one saying anything Drew yelled again.
"Wait, why are you hanging out with that ugly crybaby?" He asked which caused the whole room to erupt in laughter, but I stood strong. I kept my head up looking straight, and I felt no emotions from what happened.
"Hunter what are you doing?" This time Hunter snapped his head at Drew and his gang. I put my hand on his arm to try to stop him, but it didn't work and he dragged my sore body over to Drew and them.
"Apologize," he stated firmly with no room for questions. I just looked at the floor wishing I could sit down because everything still hurt.
"What did you just say?" Drew hissed back at Hunter."I told you to apologize because you don't know anything!" He stated again. A confused look crossed the boys face, but Drew quickly recovered and replaced the confusion with a firm look.
"Come on Hunter let's just go it doesn't matter. It's fine." I slightly pulled on his arm, but he didn't look or even acknowledge me. I brought my hand to his face and forced him to look at me.
"It doesn't matter I don't need an apology. Let's just go sit down, please." I finally gave in and I felt his body relax slightly. We started to walk away when we suddenly turned around.
"Just know that this isn't over," Hunter told them than dragged me away. A few seconds after the teacher came out and put us on teams for volleyball. I don't think the couch knew what they did to me that one day, but I never cared because I knew he didn't have a part in it.
