Aaliyah
With the Stanley cup finals going on there's a lot of special people coming out to Chicago to support their favorite hockey team. I'm not the only A-List celebrity fan that comes to the games, they've had some really cool people out and I even got to meet Jeremy Roenick finally. It's been a pretty surreal experience to see all these people cheering on the boys.
Even with all this fun stuff happening around Chicago I've been able to hang out with Patrick's family at the games and they help me out with Bella. Not that I had to ask them to help, they're at the house first thing in the morning ready to play with the baby and she's right there with them having the times of her life. It's been nice to be with my extended family this whole post season experience, but I've had this exact date circled on my calendar for a while now. My mom was going to come in and watch a game with me just like the good old times. Patrick's family gets to steal Bella for the game and I get my mom back for a little for some mommy daughter fun times.
"Wow, it feels like forever since we got to go to a game" she admits. She pulls on her personalized jersey and smiles big when she looks at the Indian head that now rested over her chest.
"It's been a while" I admit.
"Are we going to win tonight" my mom asks and I laugh. She used to always ask me that before the Hawks games and I would give her the five minute run down if we were going to win how we had to it do that night.
"Hell yeah. They're coming off a loss so of course they're going to win. Then they're going to go to Tampa and win a hard fought game on the road to take the series lead 3-2 then we'll come home and win it in front of the greatest city in the world for the first time in... well in forever" I insist.
"Ah yes, that's my girl" she teases.
We get finish getting changed and head on over to the UC. We meet up with Patrick's family and hang out with them at ice level before the game started. Jackie holds Bella up so she can see Patrick warmup on the ice. They mess around and I take a bunch of pictures because I never get enough of these people. I watch from the side so happy for this family that has found me.
"You got something really special here" my mom notices. I turn to her as she sees what I see and I couldn't help but smile.
"I do. How great is it that I found someone who holds my heart in his hands and he doesn't squeeze it or play with it? He inspires it, he feeds off of it and for that I am so thankful" I insist.
"I'm so proud of you. Not just what you've done for this city but in it too. You've made Chicago home again" she notices.
"I have. And I miss you guys like crazy. I miss Sasha and Malia and my puppies and you and dad. But I can't help but feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be" I insist.
"You are Princess, you are."
We head on up to the boxes and we hang out by the glass. I wish I could say it's like the good old days but we wouldn't survive a minute in the bowl before someone's yelling something at us. So we're gonna chill up here and yell all the profanities we want.
"Good to see you haven't changed one bit" my mom teases and I blush.
"I can't help it, I love this place and this team. And its because you brought me here from the time I was Bella's ages and let me see how great this sport and this organization is. Never did I think I would be a part of this organization or be in love with one of its corner stones. But life works in mysterious ways" I admit.
"It does. Because when I had you I was so scared that I couldn't make you happy. I was terrified that I was going to mess this up and you were going to hate me. I wasn't ready to be a mom but I just trying to find something for us to do together and I'm so happy that you turned out better than fine and I can share this with you" she explains.
"Don't come out here and get all sappy on me" I tease as I choke the tears back.
"I'm sorry. I just love you, so much, and I wanted so bad for you to be happy and for me to have a part in it and now I do" she says.
"You're everything to me mom. I wouldn't have any of this without you, I would have never wanted to start MAC or came out here to chase my dreams. I'm so thankful that you're my mom. I look up to you more than I've ever looked up to anyone. I love when people ask me about you so I can brag that you're even better than what people know" I insist.
"I brag about you all the time myself. I'm proud to have the first first daughter who is actually making a difference in the world instead of just hanging out in the White House" she laughs.
"Hey. I did that for six years" I tease.
"You did. But now look at you" she smiles.
The game comes to a end and we win just as I predicted. We all hang out in the boxes as we wait for Patrick to be done to see what we wanted to do next. He would leave tomorrow after practice so we had the rest of the night to have some fun.
We end up going to the park and playing around. The ice was gone but the whole place was red and black for the Blackhawks. So I grab Bella and show her around. She doesn't get out all that much but she didn't mind. There isn't anything at the house she wouldn't need.
"So, did you have fun with your mom tonight" Patrick asks and I smile. I watch as she talks with Patrick's mom and Jessica as they walk around.
"I did. It's great to have her around during the playoffs. Plus you guys were great tonight" I insist.
"Thanks. I thought we did pretty good" he admits and I laugh.
"You were great" I assure him.
