Chapter 1

I watched the blood drip down the side of my arm as I made the cut deeper. The crimson color stood out against my pale arm. It stung at first, then the pain went away and the subtle tingly sensation set in. I pulled down my sleeve covering the scars and recent cuts. I put the razor back in my jewelry box and closed the lid. I don’t know why I bothered hiding it, its not like my mom cared anyways. I trudged down the stairs into the kitchen. I opened up the middle drawer under the counter. The drawer was filled with random shit like pens, tacks, razor blades, and keys. I rummaged through the drawer until I found my car keys. I slammed the drawer in hopes of waking up my hungover mother. I slid into my car swiftly and turned the keys. There was a little roar of the engine as I pulled out of the garage. “Shit!” I mumbled to myself I was almost late for first period. I parked and ran inside the just in time for the damn bell to ring. I started walking towards English class when I saw Nathan out of the corner of my eye. Nathan was the kind of guy who every girl thought was attractive but no one really made an attempt to talk to. Its not like he was intimidating, at least in my opinion anyways. 

“Dawn!” Nathan called.

I turned around to see his jet black hair and his piercing blue eyes. He literally was perfect. I had known Nathan for five years now and we had stayed pretty good friends over the years. He grabbed my arm as he caught up with me. I winced at the pain.

“I thought you stopped doing that!” Nathan said half whisper 

“I tried, I really did.” I replied. 

I stared at the what are now scars on his wrist. The marks were fading and were now just a memory. Nathan pushed one of my blonde curls behind my ear. 

“You have been thinking about your dad.. haven’t you?” He said still gently holding my wrist

“All the time.” I admitted.

Nathan pushed up my sleeve careful not to disturb the open cuts from healing. He ran his finger over them as he hushed.

“Dawn, promise me you will stop.”

“I promise.”
