The New Girl (Camren)

Chapter 36

Lauren's POV

(last day of school)

It's sort of a bittersweet ending to the year, to be honest. I have recieved terrible grades this year, but I met my soul mate. Although it was an overall hard year for me with many ups and downs, it was all worth it in order to be with Camila. The things that we have gone through together sound like they can be apart of a romantic, but dramatic, movie.

After a recent hard working jam session, we asked our principal, Mr. Jackson, for an oppurtunity to perform for the school in lunch.

During the periods preceding our performance, my body shakes and I pratically jump up and down in my seat. I am really eager to show everyone what our band has to offer and that we have something special. Last night, we had to come up with a name for the band really last minute. After a lot of thinking and some arguing, we all agreed on LYLAS, which means "love you like a sister". It's not set in stone and we are still trying to figure out something better.

Camila's POV

The bell rings, signaling that we can move from our 3rd period class to lunch and my nerves fully kick in. I walk as fast as I can down the hallway while almost tripping over my flip flops. Why am I so nervous? Oh wait. Maybe it's because I have never sang in front of a crowd and especially not most of the school!

I stop at Lauren's locker and anxiously wait for her to arrive. Normani, Ally, and Dinah are walking toward me with smiles across their faces.

"You ready girl?" Dinah asks excited.

"I don't know. I'm really nervous. It's just that I have never sang in front of a lot of people before," I reply.

"Don't worry, you will do great Camila! You are one of the best singers I have ever heard and the school should really be aware of you're talent," Ally smiles.

"Yeah! Don't worry Mila. You are an amazing singer. Just pretend you're Beyonce," Normani suggests.

"Thanks guys. But isn't that your thing, Mani?" I ask giggling.

"Yeah..well you can borrow it!" she responds.

I spot Lauren on the other side of the hallway running in our direction and suddenly all of my fears disapear. Whenever she's around, my face brights up and I feel safe, like nothing can hurt me when she's with me, no matter what.

She's wearing an ACDC muscle tee with high waisted shorts and vans. She looks perfect as usual.

"Camzi!" she yells running toward me before she picks me up.

"Lauren!" I answer while being spun around.

"Gosh. Can you two stop being so damn adorable?!" Dinah sighs.

"Aren't you captain of the Camren ship?" Ally asks confused.

"Yeah. I love Camren, but sometimes it's a little too cute," she replies smiling.

Lauren and I playfully tickle each other while she twirls my long, wavy brown hair in her fingers. Everyone has been watching us for awhile until we finally realize and look at them.

"Wait! We have to set up! Let's go downstairs and make sure everything is ready," I suggest.

Our performance is about to begin. I want more than anything to hold Lauren's hand and show everyone how much we love each other, but none of the school knows yet.

Many of our peers begin to file into the auditorium and in about 5 minutes, almost every seat is taken. I'm beyond surprised that many of our "acquaintances" have filled almost the whole auditorium.

"Wow," I whisper to Lauren, who is sitting next to me.

"I know. This is crazy," she responds looking at the people who now have to stand in the back, due to the lack of room.

Normani and Ally are freaking out while Dinah scrolls through twitter as if it's just a normal day.

"Camz. I want to do tell everyone about us during the performance. This is the perfect time. Whatever I say or do please act like would if no one was watching. I love you," she smiles.

I instantly nod my head before smiling back nervously. I'm scared about how the school is going to react, but I don't really care at the same time.

Mr. Jackson runs onto the stage and we all try to relax.

"I'm happy to see that most of the school has come to hear a song by a brand new band from our school, called LYLAS! I would like to introduce them as they are seated: Normani, Ally, Lauren, Camila, and Dinah Jane!" He announces proudly.

We all thank him before I say a short introduction.

"Hi everyone. I was new to this school this year. You probably don't know me...so I'm Camila! We are going to sing Red by Taylor Swift. If you have any feedback or questions, you can ask or tell us after. Thanks for stopping by to listen," I speak into the microphone slowly before taking a deep breath, and press play on an audio recording for the background music.

Ally begins to sing as Lauren reaches for my hand and intertwines our fingers. Some people in the audience gasp and others just look confused.

When the song is over, everyone in the audience stands up and begins to cheer and scream loudly. Some start to chant Lylas and others have a completely shocked expression on their face, as if they were not expecting what they had just heard.

Lauren grabs the microphone after everyone begins to settle down.

Is she doing it?

"Thank you so much everyone. We're really happy that you liked it. I have bit of an announcement, though," she begins.

My fears go away as I now can't wait for Lauren to announce to the entire student body that we are in love. 

Normani and Ally nudge each other in anticipation, while Dinah looks at us as if we are two newborn puppies.

"Camila and I are dating. We are in love. I love her more than anything in this world and we hope that you can accept us and treat us like you would treat any other couple in this school. I know we are young, but I know for a fact that Camila is my soul mate. She makes me feel confident and love myself, even when I don't want to. She makes me feel that my life is worth living. I love everything about her, even her flaws. When I'm not with her, I feel incomplete. She is my everything," Lauren speaks sincerely with a single tear running down her cheek.

I also feel my eyes fill with tears because no one has ever said anything that nice about me, especially in front of a lot of people.

"Most of you don't know this, but I had a really hard time this year and she fixed everything for me. I can't thank her enough for that. She truly saved my life" she adds.

"I love you so much, Lauren. You're my everything. I can go on forever about how you make me feel. I hope you all can respect us for telling you and not keeping this a secret any longer. I have wanted everyone to know about this since the beginning, but I was scared. So Lauren, you're definitely the perfect match for me, there is no doubt in my mind," I reply into the microphone so that everyone is able to hear.

"I love you more," she answers before giving me a quick kiss.

A few people say aw, but most stand up and clap once again with smiles and proud expressions. Of course, there are a few haters, as expected. Those few people left the room without saying a single word, their expression saying everything.

We all step down from the stage as most of our peers exit the auditorium.

It feels as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I cannot be any content knowing that the school finally knows about Camren. Lauren and I hold hands as we take a seat in the front row, waiting for anyone who has questions.

Aw most of the school accepts Camren! Sorry that this chapter was kind of long. There is one chapter left after this, and I'm sad that it is ending so soon. Please vote and comment. I will update as soon as I can. Thank you all for everything.
