Jessie opened Evie's front door to find an attractive young woman poised to knock again. She smiled as she motioned for her to come in. "Hello. How can I help you?"
The younger woman smiled and extended her hand to shake. "I'm Constance Kramer, the boys' caseworker? I needed to see Evie about Russell."
Jessie nodded before leading the way down the hall. "Oh, of course! She's in the kitchen."
When they walked into the big airy room, they found Evie at the kitchen table, making out a shopping list. She smiled when she saw Constance, motioning for them to join her at the table.
"What brings you by this morning, Constance?"
Constance smiled as Jessie sat a bottle of water down in front of her and joined them at the table. "Thank you." She looked at Evie. "Mr. Kozik has been granted full custody of Russ, but he hasn't secured a proper residence yet, so I'm hoping that you're okay with keeping Russ here until he does that. I realize that it's unusual, but with you being involved with one of Mr. Kozik's friends, I didn't really think you'd mind."
Evie shook her head. "Of course, I don't mind! Russ can stay here as long as he wants. I have been meaning to speak to you about my status. As you know, I am in a relationship with Opie Winston. Now, I'm more than willing to keep the boys until they top out, but I'm not looking to take any more foster children after they have moved on. Opie and I want to concentrate on our own family."
Constance nodded. "That makes perfect sense, and may I say congratulations? I think it's wonderful that you've found someone to start a family with." She grinned and chuckled. "You'll have to tell me your secret there."
Evie chuckled as Jessie eyed Constance over her teacup, a strange smile on her face. She shook her head and chuckled quietly. "Love is best left up to fate, Ms. Kramer. We all have our time."
Constance nodded. "Yes, I suppose that's true. Well, I won't take up any more of your time. I just wanted to make sure Russ staying with you for a while longer was okay. I believe Mr. Kozik is working with a realtor to find a home."
After Evie walked Constance out and re-joined Jessie in the kitchen, Jessie looked at her. "Kozik is single, yes?"
Evie grinned and nodded. "Yup, he sure is. What's going through that witchy brain of yours?"
Jessie chuckled and shrugged. "Maybe fate needs a push."

Later that evening, Chibs followed the smell of wood smoke around to the back of their house and found Jessie stirring something in a cauldron over the fire. He was struck by how natural and right the scene looked. It almost reminded him of the old days in Scotland when he was a lad, watching his mother cook over an open fire. He grinned and shook his head as he stopped behind her and kissed her neck.
"Wha' ye got cookin', darlin?"
Jessie looked over her shoulder and smiled before kissing him. "A little of this, a little of that. Have you eaten yet?"
Chibs watched over her shoulder as she continued to stir the contents of the pot. He grinned and nodded. "Aye, luv, I 'ave. Who's the love potion for this time?"
Jessie brought startled eyes to his as he chuckled. "What? How would you... ?"
Chibs kissed her again before replying. "I'm not daft, woman. Tha' smells jus' like the tea ye sent with Tig." He took the long spoon out of her hands and turned her to face him. "I know ye set me up, darlin. I also know that ye set up Hap, although I dinnae know how yet."
She blushed and refused to meet his eyes. "It's not that hard, really." She sighed and shook her head. "I'll understand if you want to end things, Filip. I mean, it was underhanded, but I just wanted you so, and I thought... "
Chibs lifted a finger to her lips to silence her, giving her a serious look. "Mo aon, I'm right where I want to be. Yer potion dinnae make me fall in love wit' ye. I never drank it." When she started to speak, he shook his head and chuckled. "I dinnae, darlin. See, I had a Gran that dabbled in the occult. I know full well wha' these little potions ye make do, so I was wise enough to set the tea aside when Tig brought it to me." He raked a hand through her hair and tilted her head back to meet his gaze. "Nah, no hocus pocus made me love ye, mo aon. Ye did that just by bein' ye."
Jessie nodded, a lone tear running down her face as she looked up at the man that she adored above all others. "I love you, Filip."
Chibs smiled down at her. "Aye, and I love ye, Jessie." He nodded his head to the cauldron that was still bubbling away beside them. "So who's it for?"
Jessie grinned and shrugged. "Kozik."
Chibs chuckled. "So ye got a lass in mind, do ye?"
Jessie winked. "Nope, but fate does. I'm just helping things along, that's all."
Chibs pulled her closer and chuckled before leaning in for a kiss. "Tha's wha' my Gran used to say as well."
