Halcyon

A Long Stay?

A day later Nikki is still in the hospital due to the baby giving everyone a surprise when the heart rate dropped in the night causing concern for the Doctors overseeing Nikki's treatment. Jack has just arrived in time for visiting hours after half a day at work. Jack walks onto the ward and sees Nikki sat in the end bed beside the window with the heart rate monitor attached to her bump the IV fluids still attached and something he hadn't see yesterday was a Foley catheter running from under the sheets to an average side bag on the side of the bed. 
"Hey you" Jack smiles happily as he walks up to her and places the shopping bag down on the chair beside the bed, he leans straight in and gives her a kiss on the lips. Both of them linger for a while and share a few more kisses before pulling away. 

"Hey" Nikki smiles happily, to see her partner.
"I've brought you some fresh pajamas as they said it's unlikely you'll be going home today, I've also brought some food for you, I know how much you hate hospital food" Jack smiles as he grabs the clean bedclothes from a separate bag to the shopping and passes them to Nikki.

"Help me change please?" Nikki smiles and Jack nods before drawing the curtains around the cubicle. 

Jack turns and looks at Nikki before watching her slowly sit on the edge of the bed, "So you brought me bed shorts right?" Nikki asks indicating to the Foley catheter. 

He smirks and nods, "Whatever the lady commands."
Nikki smiles and removes her IV line and places the lip on the IV fluids and the cap back on the cannula. Jack walks over to her as she removes the gown and lets it sit just below her bump, completely naked and not much left to Jack's imagination. 

He clears his throat and regains focus, he grabs the pyjama top and helps her get it over her head, Nikki pulls her top down and gently presses on the dressing of the keyhole wound, "Are you okay?" Jack questions. 

"Yeah, Yeah... I am fine" Nikki replies. 
Jack smiles and continues to help her get dressed, next up Jack grabs her bed shorts and crouches down in front of her and he puts the shorts on her and pulls them up to her knees before Nikki stands up with his help and she pulls them all the way up before sitting herself back down on the bed, she grabs the IV fluids and attaches them. 

"Better?" Jack smiles as he sits in the armchair.
"Much better thank you... so how is Poppy?" She smiles.

Jack smiles and looks down at his phone, "So I woke up this morning to Poppy in bed with me, she was really hugging that pillow of yours" Jack smiles. 

She takes the phone off Jack and looks at the photo while admiring the photo of her daughter sleeping ever so peacefully, "Oh Jack, I do miss her... she looks so perfect" Nikki sighs lovingly at the child she feels like she hasn't seen in weeks but in fact it has only been a day. 

"She misses you too" Jack smiles as he strokes Nikki's hand lovingly, "And I miss you too" He adds looking deeply into Nikki's eyes.
"I love you" She mumbles and leans across to him and kisses his cheek.
"I love you too" He smiles as he catches her lips again and kisses her. 

"How's work?" Nikki smiles and Jack raises an eyebrow at her, "I know I know, you're going to tell me I should be resting, but I can't help but wonder what is going on at work... I have to keep my mind busy you know me" She adds. 

Jack rolls his eyes once again at her, "I'm saying nothing, you need to look after yourself and our child" He smiles.
"Jack comes on, just tell me something. maybe there is something I can help you with, I love a challenge" She smiles with a cheeky smile on her face. 

"Oh right Nik, of course, I am falling for that one, you need to rest!" He says causing Nikki to roll her eyes at him.
"Fine" She mumbles and looks down at her hands and strokes her bump gently with her thumbs. Jack and Nikki sit talking for a good five hours before Jack notices the time and realizes he has got to go and collect Poppy from the nursery.
