Chapter 8: The Uprising (Prologue)

The sky ran partly-cloudy, mostly sun. a hot breeze rolled by every few minutes that most would find unpleasant.

Footsteps crunched the yellow sands of the wasteland desert, and dust kicked up as the wind blew. walking the sands, a small boy, a man, a Brahmin, and a girl atop the Brahmin, roamed the sands.

Ahead of the man, was a glistening jewel of the desert, resembling New Vegas, besides the flashiness.

Their pace was slow, but hasty, they were in dire need of a restock of supplies...

The girl atop the beast lay slumped over, lifting her head with her angled arm.

"Does anyone live here?" the obviously bored girl asked.

The two boys continued to walk. The one called "Jackal" held his trusty hunting rifle, while the shorter one Bryan, carried a .32 pistol with the safety on.

Jackal, with his sun goggles on, tilted his head, "I'm sure there are JoJo, I mean, who do you think we're delivering this stuff to?"

She sighed, "True... but who could it be?"

"Weatherly Caravans never exactly tells it's employees who the shipment goes to, no caravan does. All that's revealed is the location, and perhaps a specific establishment to drop it off at." Jackal replied.

"And then what?" Bryan curiously cut in.

Jackal kept his gaze on the distant jewel, "And then... we move on about our business... no questions asked."

JoJo smacked her lips, "That's it!? We come all this way to make a stupid drug deal-"

"This is no drug deal JoJo... at least I don't think so..."

"But Jackal, just what would someone down here want from D.C.?"

"Like I said, no questions asked...?"

JoJo annoyingly grunted and plopped her head on the Brahmin's back.

"UHHGHHH!" she groaned.

"Hey, if it makes you feel any better, I heard rumors of caravans disappearing down here... you know... Dallas." Jackal chuckled.

As the girl merely shrugged it off, Bryan couldn't help but look up at Jackal. The last thing he wanted was something to expect, especially something that could put the mission in jeopardy... if Jackal was joking, this wasn't funny.

"I-I thought Dallas was populated... I thought that was our goal right?"

"Haha, no kiddo. I wish it were that easy, we'd be there by now if it was. But no, we're headed to some small settlement near the Austin area, and I'm saying too much just by telling you that."

Bryan could feel his heart gaining speed, "And what about Dallas? Where did you hear this!?"

Jackal could sense Bryan's fear, so he decided to cut the story short, "don't worry about it Bryan. From stories I've heard, Dallas is a well settled place I hear. Some may compare it to the D.C. ruins... well, without the constant threat of Super Mutants, Brotherhood assholes, and rigged buildings that is."

He tipped his head, "then why are people disappearing like you said?"

"Well Bryan..." he began, "it could be many things... I can't claim that I know the proprietor of Dallas this time around, so I cant go and tell you if he was a good leader or not..."
