Alvaro stood with a horse on each side. There were flowers braided into their manes and tales. I looked down and saw rose petals creating a path from where I was standing all the way to Alvaro. He had a braided vine sash over his shoulder pinned with a dozen little white flowers. I took a deep breath before walking towards him. His face lit up when he eventually saw me. I couldn't stop smiling when I had reach him.
"Hi." I said with and couldn't stop myself from smiling.
"Hi." He replied me and inhaled quickly.
We both burst out laughing over our nervousness and the fact that we were getting married without a single witness present.
He took my hands in his and swayed them lightly before speaking.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked and smiled widely before looking at his feet to hide his excitement.
"I am completely sure that you are the person that I want to spend the rest with my life with." I said and returned his excitement with a chuckle.
The horses continued grazing peacefully while we started our vows. I went first to give Alvaro a example of what should be said.
"Alvaro.. Wait, do you have a last name?" I asked in shock realizing that I have never asked his surname.
"It's Knight, Alvaro Knight." He said quickly.
"Samantha Perdita. Nice to meet you." I said and shook his hand with a smile.
We both laughed before I continued again.
"Let's try again. Alvaro Knight. I take you to be my husband. I promise to love, honor, cherish and protect you, forsaking all others and holding only unto you. I, Samantha, take thee, Alvaro, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer and poorer, to love and cherish, from this day forward until death do us part." I said in one breath and waited for Alvaro to do the same.
" How am I suppose to remember all that? How do you even know this?" He asked with a chuckle after a few seconds.
"I have watched a lot of movies." I replied and laughed at the situation.
"What about you do your own vows? That is also accepted. Just say what you are feeling." I suggested and set my hand right hand on his chest. He set his hand onto mine and cleared his throat.
"Samantha Perdita. I take you to be my wife. I will love, protect, cherish and be loyal to you every single day of my life because I love you. I have never had the opportunity to love another like I love you and that is my biggest blessing. You will forever remain my first, my only, and my last. Until death do us part." He said with loving and caring eyes. I stood in awe before a tear escaped my eye.
He stepped closer to me and gave me a passionate kiss. I threw my arms around his neck and he picked me up and swung me around.
"Are we married now?" He asked and stared into my eyes for a serious answer.
"Not legally, but spiritually." I answered his question with a smile.
He picked me up again and carried me back towards home over the rose petals.
When we were almost halfway home, we heard a loud screeching sound from the tall grass, it sounded like an animal in pain. Alvaro set me down on my feet and slowly walked towards the grass to see what was making the distressed noise. I took a step back, unsure of what he might find.
