It was chaos. No one expected Seokjin to suggest they accompany him back to his clan. No one really wanted to do it either, but he claimed that there would be more answers in his clans library than the one at the manor. Yoongi told him to just go alone, but, to everyone's surprise, Jungkook said that all of them needed to go so they could find information faster.
Namjoon had pulled Jihae to the side once everyone had started yelling at each other. "Jihae, there are things we must handle with your mother and her friend before we leave." He gave her a sympathetic look, and she assumed the worst.
"Don't kill them!" Her voice cut through the shouting match between Jungkook and Yoongi. Taehyung gave her an incredulous look.
"No one is killing anyone," he said. "We only kill when we have to feed. I'm pretty sure we are all full from our last meals." Jihae's jaw dropped at that.
"Y-you kill people?" She took a hesitant step backwards.
"We gotta eat." Jungkook shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.
Namjoon grabbed her by her shoulders and turned her to face him. "There is something very special about both Taehyung and Seokjin. They will handle everything delicately. They will not die. You have my word." They stared at each other for a long moment. Jihae was searching for dishonesty, and when she didn't find any, she nodded and stepped back.
"What about university?" She asked then.
"Finally, a question that isn't stupid." Taehyung stared at the ceiling as if regarding the heavens for a blessing.
"That will be handled by me," Jimin stated. "School will be unnecessary for you now."
"I will get you a whole new wardrobe while they are out handling your personal matters." Hoseok smiled at her, but she narrowed her eyes at him.
"And will I be joining you?"
"Well, no. You have to stay hidden for now. We don't know what type of threat there is now that you've been found," Hoseok said sheepishly.
"I guess I'll speak with Daliania. I guess you can sit in on that conversation. I'm sure you have more dumb questions to ask, and she'd be happy to answer them." Jihae looked over at Jungkook who was picking at his fingernails. He seemed bored, but she could detect the hesitation in the notion that he would have to talk to the prophet.
"And what about Namjoon and Yoongi?" Jihae looked between the two. One gave her a dimpled smile, and the other gave her a scowl.
"I will be doing a last run through of our library. Then I'm going to contact my own clan to have them searching our archives." Yoongi crossed his arms and shifted his weight from one foot to the other. He didn't meet her eyes.
"Why would they need to look when we are going to Seokjin's clan?"
"Because, human," he spat, "I don't trust them." She had to take a step back when his eyes finally met hers. His gaze was sharp, and she could finally feel the tension between the seven vampires.
None of them trusted each other. They didn't want to be there, and they especially didn't want to protect her.
She looked over at Jungkook. "I do have a lot of questions for Daliania. Starting with why the hell you seven are the ones with me and not a group of people who are actually nice." She turned to Namjoon. "And what the fuck are you going to do? Contact your clan as well?" She spat out. "I don't understand any of you. Only two of you have been remotely nice to me, but it's out of pure necessity to keep me here. One barely talks to me, and the other four of you are unbearable assholes! Why me? And why all of you?" And with those words hanging between everyone, she stomped up the stairs and to her room.
Everyone shifted uncomfortably. Her words were jumping around like pinballs in their heads. They all knew they could have done better with her. They all knew they could have done better with each other. But how can one overcome centuries of tension and hatred? All of their clans were against each other in one way or another due to the politics involved. Everyone despised Namjoon's clan since he was the head of it and a half breed.
"I was going to tell her I planned to keep her company while we wait for Daliania," Namjoon said as he scratched the back of his head. His mouth was turned to a grimace, and he was contemplating if he should go after her.
"I was nice to her," Taehyung mumbled.
"Once. And that was because you were sick of her crying, not because you actually wanted to be nice to her." Jimin held Taehyung's gaze before Taehyung finally relented and nodded in reluctant agreement. He turned to the other five. "She's very observant. She knows we don't actually like her or care about her."
"I'm indifferent towards her," Seokjin said softly. "I just don't know how to deal with humans."
Hoseok sighed heavily. "We have a lot to do. Jungkook has technically known her the longest." He turned to Jungkook then who had his eyebrow raised in question. "Go upstairs and calm her down or something."
"What the hell?" He shouted. "No fucking way. She can get over herself." He crossed his arms in defiance, and Hoseok pinched the bridge of his nose while he squeezed his eyes shut.
"Just do it, Jungkook." He pointed towards the stairs before walking out the manor door.
Taehyung and Seokjin nodded to each other before leaving, and Jimin stood in the doorway of the manor for a long moment. "She has to trust us, Jungkook. Make her trust us." And then he was gone.
Namjoon looked over to see that Yoongi had already left. Jungkook was just standing there limply with his mouth hanging open. Namjoon sighed. "I guess I'll go call Daliania. Don't screw this up, Jungkook."
Soon enough, Jungkook was alone in the parlor. He stood regarding the stairway before giving in and going up to Jihae's room. He decided to move at a human pace. He wanted to take his time before facing her. He also wasn't sure what he would say to her. He'd probably just piss her off more.
When he got to her door, he stood there for a moment just shuffling his feet. Did he knock? Did he just bust the door open like he did a few hours before? He decided to knock.
He could hear her move around, and he tried to be very patient with how slow she was moving to the door. Don't get angry, he told himself.
When she opened her door, she didn't look to see who it was before turning to walk back to the small makeup table. She sat back down and stared into the mirror at her own reflection. Tears were streaking her cheeks, and she didn't bother to hide it.
"Jihae," Jungkook whispered. He watched her reflection in the mirror, and he was only slightly disappointed when she didn't show any reaction. "We are doing our best."
"Are you really?" She croaked out. "It doesn't seem that way to me."
"For the moment, yes. We are doing our best." He looked around for a place to sit before settling at the end of her bed. He could now see his sitting form in the mirror, a small blur behind her. "Tomorrow, we will do better, and that will be a newer version of our best." He was out of his element in that moment. He didn't know how to be calm and understanding, but it was up to him. He had to make her trust them. He was the only one that made her snap out of her initial panic the first time. He could do it again.
He watched as she tilted her head in contemplation. He gave her a soft smile before continuing. "We have to learn, Jihae. We are all from different clans that have been fighting for a thousand years. You're right in assuming that we don't want to be here. We had to leave a lot behind."
