your POV

It was a very early Saturday morning. Like, very early. I decided I wanted to watch the sunrise. It was Eddie's birthday. And even though I know sleeping in is fun, I decided this was my first of many surprises for the day.

At 5:00 in the morning, just before sun would start to peak over the hills, I crept over to Eddie's house. I had to sneak him out without his mom waking up and hearing. She didn't wake up until 9:30, Eddie once told me. Meaning if I had him back by 9-ish, we'd be good to go.

I originally planned that we'd be hanging out around 11:30, which his mom knew about, but I was surprising him early, sending him home, and then seeing him two hours later. A brilliant plan, I know.

Luckily, I had always been very agile. I hopped onto his porch and managed to hoist myself onto the lower part of his roof. I made my footsteps quick and quiet. Already knowing which window was his I tried to open it. No such luck.

I knocked once. Twice. And then again. And then...

"What the hell is going on?" A very sleepy Eddie whisper-shouted as he opened his bedroom window. He opened his squinty eyes and took in that I was standing on his roof. "Uh, Y/n what are you doing here? It's 5:00am."

"I know, dingbat. Get dressed birthday boy."

He groggily put on a blue button up and some slacks. He rubbed his eyes, didn't bother to touch his hair, and turned back to face me when he was done. "Now what?" He was most definitely a little grumpy.

"Come on," I urged, beckoning him towards the window. His eyes grew wide as he realized my plan.

"No, no, no. I can't sneak out! I'm going to get caught. My mom would kill me, and you, if she found out!!" He protested, folding his arms.

"That's why we aren't going to be caught. We're wasting time, Eddie!"

Nervously, he walked closer to the window and opened it fully. He bent down and crawled through, trying to keep his clumsiness to a minimum. He stumbled out onto the rough and shuddered in the morning air.

I took his hand and led him to the edge of the rough, where I hopped off and landed lightly on my feet. I looked up. "Let's go scaredy cat, we're going to miss!"

"Miss what?"

"The surprise."

Glancing at me and then the ground, he scooted his feet to the edge and jumped off, landing in the grass on his feet, by slipping and ending up on his butt. I tried to hide my giggling. Eddie stood up quickly, brushed himself off, and gave me a weary thumbs up.

"Follow me," I told him, taking his hand in mine. We walked down the quiet streets and to a soft grassy park, only about a mile from Eddie's house.

Reaching the park, I instructed him to close his eyes. Leading him over to a picnic type set up I had laid out, I sat down and helped him to sit down. Lucky for me, the sun had just begun to rise. A few rays of golden sun had started to peak over the horizon line, and orange stripes had started to decorate the sky.

I took a deep breath.

"Okay. Open," I said, smiling as he took his hand away from his eyes and took in his surroundings. He looked at the blanket, and around at the empty, grassy park. Then, to the sky, which lit up his hazel eyes, and lastly, to me.

"Y/n..." he said quietly. He put his hand over mine and sat for a few moments, taking it all in. "Thank you."

I shrugged simply and gave a soft smile. "Anything for you, birthday boy."

A thought sprung into my mind and I pulled a small box out from behind me, which was in a basket I kept hidden from Eddie. I placed the box gently into his hands.

"For me?" He sounded almost surprised.

"Obviously," I giggled, gesturing for him to open it. He did. Carefully, he untied the bow and unwrapped the box. Eddie took off the lid, and he pulled his gift out.

It was a small photo book. So far, I only had about 20 pictures in it. There was a note which explained that he could keep adding pictures as our relationship went on. Tears nearly spilled from his eyes.

He flipped through the pages, laughing and sniffling. I just sat there, viewing it over his shoulder. The pictures were placed in order.

Our first date. At school. At the quarry. A picture with the whole losers club, but I was on his back. Our first school project, which turned out pretty great. And many more.

When he flipped to the last page, he closed the book gently and looked over at me.

"Wow, y/n. I...thank you. Thank you so much. I know this is going to be my favorite gift today."

"Aw, well shucks, you're too kind," I teased, squeezing him tightly and kissing his cheek.

"I love you, birthday boy."

His cheeks flushed. "I love you more."

(a/n: sorry these oneshots are so short. I'm still figuring them out, lol.)
