I awoke to Tommy singing softly, the lilting melody of an angel, echoing through the hospital room. I opened my eyes to find him singing to our little girl named after the sister he had lost. Born with a shock of dark hair and piercing blue eyes like her father on the way to the hospital.
Her little hand was wrapped around Tommy's finger and probably around his heart. She was a little girl who would be raised in a house full of boys, protected by family and starting off with love where I had started off with hate.
Tommy's gaze moved from her to me, his expression so tender it melted my heart. He moved toward me placing her in my arms before kissing my temple.
"How are you feeling?" He asked and I chuckled.
"Like my body has been pulled apart and put back together," I said, glancing down at Tammy, "But it was worth it."
"Oh good," he said, wiggling his brows, "Because I want another kid eventually."
"Give me a couple of years," I said, laughing, staring into her little face, "Right now, I am perfectly happy with you, with her, with our family."
His eyes were shining, "You know, Micah told me I would probably meet the special girl who would be perfect for me when I least expected it," he said, softly, "I didn't realize how right he was."
"I love you, Tommy," I whispered as his lips brushed mine.
"I love you too, Liza Bell," he said, healing pieces of my heart that I expected to remain broken for the rest of my life, "And I always will."
