It was the Winter ball. Harry was wearing his suit and chilling on the stairs, watching everyone having the best time while he was alone. His friends didn't pay much attention to him as they were preoccupied with something else. Harry sat there and thought about things. He decided to pull a prank on some people, so he went to the common room to get his invisibility cloak. When he got it, he put it on and went to the ball. He accidentally knocked a cup off a table, which resulted in a girls dress being soaked. He took off the cloak, quickly apologized and tried to leave. That didn't work out as he wanted it to, because everybody was staring at him. He felt awkward so he decided to get out as soon as possible. But somebody caught his attention.
"Going somewhere, Potter?"-a familiar voice said.
The room was filled with silence at that moment. Everybody was staring at Harry. He just hid in a corridor until the music started playing again. He sat there for most of the winter ball, looking out the window. He tried to figure who the voice was, but couldn't quite get it. Then somebody came up to him and tapped his shoulder.
"Yes?"-he said, turning his head.
"Potter. Why'd you leave the ball?"-Draco said, looking at Harry's suit.
"Because I made a fool of myself. And besides, I hadn't managed to get a date."
"The famous Potter didn't manage to get a date?"-Draco smirked.
"I'd like to see your date then, Malfoy."
Draco stood there feeling kind of embarrassed and shamed.
"Haha. See? Your date isn't better then mine."-Harry giggled.
"Whatever, Potter."
Draco slightly tightened and just looked away from Harry. He really liked his laugh. His smile. The way that suit looked on him. He decided not to temp himself, so he just went back to the ball. While everyone was at the ball, only Harry was sitting alone. Everyone, even if they didn't have dates, seemed to be having so much fun. Harry decided to visit Dumbledore's office. He hasn't been there in a while. So as he got there, he looked around and sighed. A smile formed on his face, then memories from first to seventh year flooded back and forth in his head. All the memories, including the one, where Dumbledore was killed by Snape. He remembered the face on Draco when he said "You don't understand!I have to do this! I have to kill you... Or he'll kill me.." He didn't want to. Draco didn't want this. His father did. Harry thought about Lucius Malfoy. They never got along well.
Harry sat and thought. The memory bottles were there on Dumbledore's shelf where he always kept them. He seemed curious to what memories he kept there. He decided to take a look. He found one memory which was very old. Almost when Harry was born. Just a little later. He decided to look at it because he could- he was alone. He poured it in the cauldron and placed his head inside. There it showed how Dumbledore was waiting for Hagrid. Hagrid arrived with baby Harry in his hands. The night they left him at the Dursley's. He didn't really want to watch anymore because his childhood was traumatized by the Dursley's, so he just took his head out of the cauldron. He went back to the Gryffindor common room to find that everyone was not there yet. He wanted to go find his friends, so he went to the ball. The ballroom was empty! Where was everybody? He decided to go look for them. He found his friends out of Hogwarts grounds, sitting by the river. He decided not to bother them, since they were having a nice moment with each other. He flew his broom to the Quidditch court since nobody was there. That's what he thought. But Draco was already there before him.
Draco was sitting on the ground staring at the nature afar. He had his eyes closed, so he didn't even notice that Harry sat a few meters away from him. Harry made some noise while placing his hand on the ground, and Draco instantly opened his eyes. He turned his head to see Harry smiling at him. He slightly smiled back and was holding back laughter.
"Harry, your glasses are-"-Draco burst into laughter. Harry's glasses were upside down and it looked really cringy.
"Um..Oh."-Harry realized and took his glasses off. The moment he took his glasses off Draco stopped laughing to look at his beautiful face. Harry's eyes were large and emerald green. His hair slightly moved from the wind. He noticed Malfoy staring at him, and then remembered. He smirked at Draco then said:
"You called me by my first name?"
"What?— No I think you got it wrong—"-then it went strangely quiet. Draco was looking away from Harry whilst blushing a bit. Harry put his glasses back on. He touched Draco's face, turning it to face his. He realized what he just done and backed away. Draco started into his eyes. There was a very rough tension. Very. They stared in silence. Nobody broke the silence, so they just sat, staring into each others eyes. Harry finally spoke.
"So, how is Lucius?"
Draco looked into the distance and sighed.
"He's in Azkaban and he can stay there for all I care.""Oh. Well I'm sorry to hear about —"
"You don't have to be sorry. He deserves it for the way he treated me, and for being in Voldemort's army. He's such a scum."
"Did Snape's death affect you? Just curious. He really tried to protect you."
"He only did it because he made a promise. He just didn't want to die. That's all. He never actually cared about me."
"Right. I wonder what it would be like if I decided to never come back to life that day."
"What do you mean? You had a choice?"
"Yes I did. Dumbledore was there. It was strange, but.. I was at Kingston train station, just with no people or trains. And I had a choice to stay there or come to life again."
"Oh. Why'd you chose to come to life? I mean not that it's bad or anything just—"
"I knew I had to die back then but something just hit me and I felt like everyone was disappointed and in need of me."
Draco passed out on the ground of the quidditch court. Harry later found out that Draco had been starving himself and barely drinking any water. Draco woke up in the infirmary with Harry sitting by his side, half asleep. When Draco woke, Harry started yelling at him.
"Why would you? Why would you starve yourself?! You haven't been eating or drinking?! Look at yourself! You're so thin!"
"Since when do you care so much?"
"Since now."
And that was just the beginning of their bond.
