' Are you okay, miss? '

I looked over my shoulder. There was no-one suspicious. Just a girl scrolling through her phone, a man in suit, obviously waiting for his ride. Nothing strange about him.

But I really felt like someone was following us. And it all started from when I took this  taxi, from Jenny's place.

' Are you okay, miss? '

I glanced at the car behind us. It had been there since we left Jenny's place and I was sure that that was what was following us.

' Miss, are you okay? '

I looked at the driver. He was looking at me through the rare view mirror and I could see concern in his blue eyes.

' Do you think that car behind us has been following us? ' I asked nervously.

He glanced at it through the side mirror and smiled as it branched off.

' No, are you involved in something ?' he said eyeing me suspiciously. ' Illegal? '

I choked a little on my saliva. ' Me? No! I just feel like someone is following me. '

He smiled as if he understood. ' You know, it's normal. '

' You mean, it's normal being stalked? ' I asked taking another nervous look behind us. There was nothing but normal people going about their business. Others retiring home for the evening.

' It's normal to feel like someone's following you, ' he said taking a turn. ' I once had it, long when I was about your age. Someone had been following me for a week. '

' And, did you find out who was following you? '

He leaned back and laughed. ' There was no one following me. Like I said, it's normal to get that feeling. I was only imagining things. And my doctor said I was so tired and I needed rest. '

' Oh, ' I said taking yet another glance back. I was completely sure that someone was following me.

' You just need some rest. When your brain is overworked, it tends to play tricks on you. '

' I think I'll get off here, ' I told him. If someone was following me, I was not going to lead them directly to our house.

' This is not Quarter's street. '

' Yes, I've changed my mind. I'm stopping here,' I said grabbing my bag that was resting beside me.

' It's not about the feeling? '

I smiled while shaking my head. 'I just remembered I had something to pick at the store for my sister. '

Why did I say sister! There were more than a dozen other people I could mention, why did I say sister.

He nodded and pulled off the road. I hopped out. Not to pick something for Amy. I could find something for myself to buy some time. After that, I could board another taxi home.

' Thanks, ' I said rushing inside the first building. A business building with people rushing in and out with goods. It had numerous painted signs, the one at the top most floor caught my eyes, a jeweler's.

I went up the staircase as quickly as possible, taking four steps at a time. It was a great deal of four steps as one was as high as two normal steps.

I was just making it to the final floor when I saw it. A little girl standing on the concrete supporting the railing of the staircase. She wasn't facing me so I doubt she heard me approach because she continued talking to someone.

' What about mommy? ' she was saying. ' She'll not be happy to find me gone. She told me not to leave the room. '

I stopped. Who could she be talking to? There couldn't be anyone there. And if there was, the person couldn't possibly hear what the girl was saying. We were some seven floors up!

' That's not true, mommy loves me. She'll miss me. '

I decided to check whom it was. Maybe they were standing on the stairs in floor below. But that could not be it. I could have heard their footsteps behind me. I crept towards her.

' She didn't mean to hurt me,  she was just annoyed. '

I moved a little faster.

' Yes, '

I moved even more faster.

' Okay, let me tell mommy then. She said I should always ask for permission. '

I looked around for her mother, father or something but there was no one around.

' Why not? ' her alarmed voice brought back my eyes to her.

There was the shuffling of feet in the room behind me.

' Okay, ' her voice was now a whisper.

' Hey, ' I said hurrying over to her. ' What are you doing ther-'

I was cut when she suddenly jumped.

I screamed running towards her, I suppose I thought I could catch her before she could make it any further. But I was wrong. She was already miles away from me.  I could see her body floating downwards. Then she hit the floor and I heard someone screaming from below. I also shrieked.

A door opened behind me and a woman appeared looking pale. Another bald headed man appeared behind her.

' What is it, Eve? ' he asked the woman.

' I thought I heard a scream.  Alice's scream,' she said turning around to face me.

When she saw me, she held her chest and sighed. ' I thought it was my daughter. Have you seen her? '

I raised a trembling finger in the direction of the concrete where the girl had been standing some minutes before. I was too shocked to talk.

She frowned in confusion. I didn't know how to tell her that her daughter had just jumped.

Another scream from below made her rush for the railing. I stepped back not wanting to see what I had just seen.

' No! ' The woman shrieked leaning against the railing of the staircase.

'Alice, baby! ' she shrieked again rushing for the staircase.

The man went after her, shouting for her to stop.

I stood there, still not able to get my head to register what I had witnessed. I walked over to the railing and looked down. The girl was lying on the floor, a puddle of blood formed around her head which was horrifyingly  split up.

I gasped taking a step back and then I saw a piece of paper lying on the floor.

The lady had probably dropped it while running. I picked it up and unfolded it.

Door.

That was the only thing it said. I turned it around but that was the only writing on it. Door. What was the lady doing with a piece of paper written 'door'?

Frowning, I looked up and there, before my eyes, was blood writings on the door saying in capitals: YOU ARE NEXT!

I didn't wait to think. I instantly threw the piece of paper away, took to my feet and went down the staircase now taking maybe eight at a time because we reached the last floor together with the man, panting.
