' Are you okay, miss? '
I looked over my shoulder. There was no-one suspicious. Just a girl scrolling through her phone, a man in suit, obviously waiting for his ride. Nothing strange about him.
But I really felt like someone was following us. And it all started from when I took this taxi, from Jenny's place.
' Are you okay, miss? '
I glanced at the car behind us. It had been there since we left Jenny's place and I was sure that that was what was following us.
' Miss, are you okay? '
I looked at the driver. He was looking at me through the rare view mirror and I could see concern in his blue eyes.
' Do you think that car behind us has been following us? ' I asked nervously.
He glanced at it through the side mirror and smiled as it branched off.
' No, are you involved in something ?' he said eyeing me suspiciously. ' Illegal? '
I choked a little on my saliva. ' Me? No! I just feel like someone is following me. '
He smiled as if he understood. ' You know, it's normal. '
' You mean, it's normal being stalked? ' I asked taking another nervous look behind us. There was nothing but normal people going about their business. Others retiring home for the evening.
' It's normal to feel like someone's following you, ' he said taking a turn. ' I once had it, long when I was about your age. Someone had been following me for a week. '
' And, did you find out who was following you? '
He leaned back and laughed. ' There was no one following me. Like I said, it's normal to get that feeling. I was only imagining things. And my doctor said I was so tired and I needed rest. '
' Oh, ' I said taking yet another glance back. I was completely sure that someone was following me.
' You just need some rest. When your brain is overworked, it tends to play tricks on you. '
' I think I'll get off here, ' I told him. If someone was following me, I was not going to lead them directly to our house.
' This is not Quarter's street. '
' Yes, I've changed my mind. I'm stopping here,' I said grabbing my bag that was resting beside me.
' It's not about the feeling? '
I smiled while shaking my head. 'I just remembered I had something to pick at the store for my sister. '
Why did I say sister! There were more than a dozen other people I could mention, why did I say sister.
He nodded and pulled off the road. I hopped out. Not to pick something for Amy. I could find something for myself to buy some time. After that, I could board another taxi home.
' Thanks, ' I said rushing inside the first building. A business building with people rushing in and out with goods. It had numerous painted signs, the one at the top most floor caught my eyes, a jeweler's.
I went up the staircase as quickly as possible, taking four steps at a time. It was a great deal of four steps as one was as high as two normal steps.
I was just making it to the final floor when I saw it. A little girl standing on the concrete supporting the railing of the staircase. She wasn't facing me so I doubt she heard me approach because she continued talking to someone.
