When Juliette left, I called Topher to help me with something. Finding Juliette.
Topher: “Tommy, didn’t you say she had a YouTube channel?”
Me: “Yeah!”
Topher: “What’s it called?”
Me: “Um, What does Deafblindness mean to Me.” I tell Topher. I started watching some of Juliette’s youtube videos. She talks about her living with both Deafblindness and COPD which she did not tell me today, how and why her mother Heidi left her, her sister Flora Rose and her other sister I did not get the name of, and grief. I searched her up on Instagram and all I see is her, Rhiannon, her father, Flora Rose,her unknown sister, Topher, Faith this other skinny kid and things about art, music, travel quotes and weird photos of this great author I’ve heard of before James Patrick Ark who lives in Sicily; the toe of Italy, and pictures of Italy itself, Amsterdam, Greece, home (Brighton), Ireland, California, Arizona, Colorado and San Francisco.
I went back to Juliette’s channel, which is filled with at least a hundred videos dating back seven years or so.
I squinted, because her name and the name of her channel looked oddly familiar. Oh god, this is the friend that Rhiannon has been hanging out with. Why didn’t Topher or Rhiannon ask us all to hang out? We would've at least known a little bit about each other. There was a time at one point during our lives when Topher asked me to attend a bonfire party at the beach a few years ago, but I was to dumb enough to not go. Maybe if I’d known she looked like that…
I clicked on one of the first entries entitled; “My Time in Columbia!” with a star and heart emoticon next to the caption, clicking on a video with a thumbnail of a young Juliette with a mouthful of metal, her normal nose cannula, and two braids braided from top to bottom pinned back. I hit the volume button and her voice comes pouring out of my speakers.
Video Juliette: “Okay, I just arrived at Rupert’s house on Day 5 of ‘Meeting Rupert and making sure he isn’t a perv’ mission with one of Rupert’s favorite desserts, Arequipe.” The video cuts off and shows them sitting on a park bench eating the dessert, both of them covered in winter clothes. This girl has some good taste in fashion. I'll give her that. I smile at them, at the video as another plays. I watched all her videos, even the ones featuring her siblings which the youngest one, Flora Rose, is nicknamed “Flow.”
