The familiar No More Dream ringtone woke Paris up that Monday, but that morning in particular it didn't seem to bother her like other days. She sat up with a big smile on her face, looking at the calendar on her bedside table, the date circled with red hearts; it was November 18th, which meant it was hers and her boyfriend Jaejun's first anniversary.

Getting ready for school seemed to take longer: she decided to curl the tips of her hair, remembering that he loved when she did that, and after she was done putting on makeup she finished by putting on some of her favourite perfume. She checked her phone a few times, to see if there were any messages, but every time she felt her joy decreasing when she noticed that nothing had arrived yet; proud, she knew she wasn't going to be the first one to text, and decided to wait for a little longer thinking that he'd still be sleeping.

Her mother welcomed her with a hug as soon as she went down the stairs, knowing that it was a special day, which Paris returned weakly along with a half-hearted smile. When she pulled back, her mother grabbed her by the shoulders, and looking at her straight in the eyes said, "Darling, are you okay? You should be really happy today."

"Yeah, I guess," she replied, thinking about a quick excuse so her mother wouldn't think anything weird or overreact; she was used to that kind of stuff, and she never liked it. "I just was nervous so I couldn't really sleep, but I'm fine," and when the older one laughed and hugged her again, she sighed on her shoulder. "What should I do? What if he doesn't remember?"

"Honey, let me tell you something," bringing her to the kitchen table, her mother moved one of the chairs carefully, leaving the space for Paris to sit on it. Walking to the other side, she finished breakfast for them both and brought it to the table. "If there's something people don't forget any time, are special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, and things like that because they mean something big. Believe me when I tell you there's nothing to worry about. I can tell he really cares about your relationship, so I don't think he'd mess up by forgetting your very first anniversary."

Bringing a glass of orange juice to her mouth, Paris drank a little bit while thinking about what her mother had told her for a few seconds. A small smile appeared on her face when she remembered all those other times that Jaejun had been nothing but a sweetheart to her, and deep in her mind she knew that there was nothing to worry about.

After they were done with breakfast, she looked up at the clock hanging on the wall and saw it was already 8:30. Not wanting to be late, she drank a last sip of the juice and quickly bowed goodbye to her mother before grabbing her bag and exiting the house, walking to the bus stop that was a block away.

The ride to the school was sort of boring but at the same time fun. Listening to music, she thought about what Jaejun would say about her gift: a small photobook filled with pictures of them together at different parks, at their houses, at school, and so on. She felt very proud of the fact that she had made it all by herself in the course of two months, and she was sure that something from her heart was better than something expensive. After a few minutes, she arrived at the school gates, and as she was about to go in a voice screaming her name stopped her midway.

"Paris unnie!" one of her friends, Soohyun greeted her as she ran up to Paris with a big smile on her face. She was one of the few people that remembered the date of her anniversary with Jaejun. "Today's a special day, huh? Do you have anything prepared for him?"

"Yes, but I want it to be a surprise, so I won't tell you until I have given it to him," Paris said while she started walking towards the inside of the school holding her bag tight, Soohyun following closely behind her. "It's nothing big or expensive though, so don't even try to guess because you won't get it, Soohyunnie."
