Emperor Lee Yang is to marry long-term girlfriend Lee Ji Eun next week, Gyeonbokgung palace has announced early this morning after the couple's return from North Korea.
Emperor Lee Yang, will marry in Seoul next week and then the couple will live in Gyeonbokgung palace where all the previous emperors and their partners lived before.
"We are both very, very happy," The emperor said. He had proposed in her backyard at her home which surprised many since it was a very simple proposal coming from the imperial sovereign.
Miss Lee Ji Eun said joining the Royal Family was a "daunting prospect". "Hopefully I'll take it in my stride," she added.
The crown Prince said he was "thrilled, obviously" about the nearing wedding, joking: "They've been waiting long enough."
Lee Ji Eun 's parents said they were "absolutely delighted" and "thrilled" by the news.
Her father said: "We have got to know Yang really well, we all think he is wonderful and we are extremely fond of him"
"They make a lovely couple, are great fun to be with and we've had a lot of laughs together. We wish them every happiness for the future."
The royal wedding was announced in a brief statement released by the prime minister through a broadcasting all across the nation.
It said: "The Grand Empress dowager and the empress dowager are delighted to announce the wedding of Emperor Lee Yang to Miss Lee Ji Eun next week.
