Why Are We Apart? - Part 2

Luke stood in slight shock, he didn't know that Asher felt that way. He saw the dimpled boy was crying, so put an assuring arm around him.

"It's okay" Luke assured "You don't have to be ashamed of anything"

"It's not that" Asher sobbed "It's the fact that I know he'll never love me back"

"What makes you say that?" Luke wondered.

"He could do better than me" Asher argued.

Luke was confused, he had never seen this side of Asher before. At the same time, he knew that the true feeling were being revealed.

"I don't think that's true" Luke stated "Joshua has always been so fond of you"

"But I'll ruin my friendship with him if I tell him" Asher sighed.

"Or, you could change it to a full relationship" Luke suggested "Just tell him, what's the worst that can happen?"

"He'll hate me forever" Asher claimed.

"No, he won't" Luke rejoined "Joshua isn't the sort of person to hate anyone"

Asher had never spoken so openly with anyone before, and was surprised that he was saying this stuff to Luke.

"Do you honestly think I have a chance?" Asher posed.

"You are the only person I think he would give a chance to" Luke clarified.

Asher suddenly found his confidence returning, it felt better to not carry hidden feelings anymore. He quickly hugged Luke before they both went in search of Joshua.

They returned to the cafeteria to find Joshua sat with Peyton and Sofia. For the first time in a while, Asher smiled and was so happy to see them all.

Joshua saw Asher with Luke and also smiled back. For him, it was a relief to simply see Asher smile again.

"Hey guys!" Asher beamed.

"Hey!" Joshua replied, ensuring he was first to do so.

"Is everything okay?" Sofia wondered.

"I was talking to Luke just now" Asher explained "And I have some things to say"

"Okay" Peyton replied.

"First of all, I'm sorry to all of you" Asher apologised, feeling his heart race "I shouldn't have avoided anyone, and I feel very guilty"

"It's okay" Joshua promised, grabbing Asher's hand.

"No it's not" Asher reacted "I should have just explained what I was going through"

"Did you explain it to Luke?" Joshua questioned.

"Yes I did, and it helped me to fully accept everything" Asher confirmed.

Joshua felt pleased that Asher was becoming more comfortable as he spoke. He just hoped his friend would always remain happy.

"I am glad" Joshua commented.

"But there's something else I want to say" Asher added.

"Go on then" Joshua encouraged.

"Joshua, from the moment I met you, I knew that I liked you" Asher complimented "You're the most kind and gentle person in the world"

"Oh, thank you" Joshua chuckled.

"But as we got older, I realised I didn't just like you" Asher persisted "I'm in love with you Joshua"

Asher could feel himself start to sweat. He tried to remain calm whilst everyone else took in what he said. Luke smiled at him reassuringly.

"I knew it!" Peyton declared.

"That explains a lot" Sofia added.

Asher was pleased that the girls were supportive, but he was really waiting for what Cyrus had to say.

"Is that why you've been avoiding me?" Joshua wondered.

"Yes, I'm sorry I wish I told you the truth" Asher said.

"Don't be sorry" Joshua insisted.

Joshua stood up and pulled Asher close, connecting their lips. It was unlike anything either of them had experience before, and they were met by the cheers of the others when they pulled away.

"I love you Asher!" Joshua beamed.

"I love you too Joshua" Asher rejoined.

It was no longer awkward, and from that moment on life went from being boring, to being amazing.
